Today I woke to a crazy thunder and lightening storm and an almost torrential downpour of rain. Certainly not normal for this time of the year and the city was in no way prepared for the sudden downpour. All the roads infront of the apartment flooded and by 9am all traffic, people and business had come to a stop. It was quite a site to see - 2 foot of water rushing down the street, cars broken down and people pushing their motorbikes. When the rain had stopped Ana and I went to the market and got some shopping - Ana is a lecturer at a college here and because of the rain this morning could not go to work. Ana cooked another great lunch for me today consisting of fried Plantano (giant banana), beans, broccoli and Colombian Beef. After lunch we walked into the city and I left Ana to do a few things whilst I went for a walk around the city centre, I went looking for a hairdresser and found one that would cut my hair for just $2 - compared to the rest who wanted $5 upwards. The hairdresser could not speak a word of English but kept trying to talk to me in Spanish - bless her, the place was rough but she did a really good job and when it came time to finish up out come the razor - oh s*** haha she went around finishing off with a razor, to say I was nervous was an understatement! After my haircut I picked up 3 mangos for a whole of 16 cents of a little old lady on the corner; Colombia may be expensive but there are still bargains to be had you just have to look. In the evening I prepared a stirfry with chorizo and ofcourse a guacamole salad to accompany it. It has been really nice just hanging out and sharing meals with Ana, she is a really sweet girl and I will be sad to say goodbye tomorrow.
