Today I was up early and wow it was steaming hot even at 5am, I did my best to go back to sleep but the heat was keeping me awake. I was feeling very uneasy in this town and specially in the hostel: the guy who ran the hostel was very fidget always sneaking around trying to watch what I was doing and he kept turning the Internet off which kind of annoyed me as I had paid for the service. There was just me and one other Moroccan guy staying at hostel and he was as dodgey as they come, always scamming, pretending he had no money, dealing drugs, taking everything that was left in the hostel- I did my best to stay in good stride with him as you would not want to be on the bad side of this guy. All this meant I was always worrying about my stuff, my safety and s*** my sanity. I decided to head down the beach for a swim before making my way over to Santa Marta. The water was beautiful and I layed on the beach for a while and enjoyed the sunshine - really is such a shame this place had all the issues it would have been great to stay a few days! I packed my things. said goodbye to Choco the manager of the hostel and Abel my new crazy Moroccan friend and caught the first bus over to Santa Marta to meet Ana by CS host. The bus driver kicked me off the bus early but I found my way to Ana's ok, called and she came down and got me. I was very surprised to see and hear that her English was quite good and she was married to an English guy who was currently in Australia working. She is a lovely girl and has a nice big apartment in the middle of the city. At about 5pm her friend Pedro came around (also a Couchsurfing member) and we all walked into the city to see the oldest Cathedral in Colombia. Whilst we were in the city we also checked out various your companies that offered 5 day treks to the Lost City, although the tour sounds awsome the price of $350 is a little out of my price range. All the Couchsurfers in town are going camping this weekend as its a long weekend so I may join them on that trip instead. On the way home we visited a huge market and I loaded up on vegetables as I told Ana I would cook for her tomorrow night! We made our way back and it was time to relax, my body is still really struggling to adapt to this heat and the water I think is making me feel ill and give me the s***s.
