I had to get up early today, well I say early but actually the normal of 5am rise and shine so I could talk to my parents. We are trying to Skype once a week now which is great, much better then emails, I can hear their voices and here how they are just by the tone of their voices. We had a nice chat and then I had to say goodbye as I was off to meet another local Couchsurfer at 8am who would be my guide for the morning. Pedro my guide was introduced to me by Ana Maria, he is a middle aged man who has been taking care of his Mother full time for the last 5 years. I can tell he has be tied up with his Mother for so long that he is just itching to get out and do things again and thus he has joined couchsurfing. Firstly we headed to the harbor and looked out at the ocean and a few islands. Even at 8 in the morning the sun is so intense here you can't stay out in it for too long. We continued along the waterfront looking at the sites, taking photos and I was given a brief history of the region. We then headed into the city where we walked through two beautiful parks before stopping at a juice bar for refreshments. Pedro's English is good but he has a bit of trouble understanding me but he tried and tried which made me respect him even more. Next we jumped on a minibus and headed over to Rambalas - a beautiful beach up and around the mountain where all the Colombians go on holidays. The beach is littered with high rise apartments, all inclusive hotels and a beachfront typical of a tourist destination. We jumped in the water which was really warm and had a swim for an hour or so before it was time to head back and meet my host Ana Marie. Ana was making lunch for me today a chicken and cauliflower dish and I made guacamole to go with it. After lunch we both had a typical Spanish siesta. Later I walked to the market and brought a few things as I would be cooking dinner. Ana was off back to work at 6-9pm so I had some time to prepare the dinner; on tonight's menu Tortilla Australianis with Colombian salshishong, onion, carrot, peppers, ham and tomatoes - accompanied by a tomato, avocado, lettuce, carrot, red onion and walnut salad with a sweet maple syrup and lime dressing.
