Another sleepless night and I am stumped as to why I can not sleep, I wake from 2am onwards every 20 minutes waiting for 4:30 - 5am to come around so I can get up and do my exercises. The problem is I feel the lack of sleep now is affecting me both physically and mentally. It was my job today to catch lunch, the farm where I am staying has a dam stocked with Talapia (a Colombian freshwater fish). Using freshly dug up worms I took to the dam - unfortunately the fish were not biting and after an hour I had only had a few bites. Elizabeth's brother and nephew came down and tried also and showed me how to snag them when they bite. Suddenly we started to get a few bites and with this new snagging technique it wasn't long before we landed one and then another and another. Things were looking up and after a few hours we had about 12. It was after 12:30pm now and they were waiting on the fish for lunch so I raced up the house, cleaned them and got them to the chefs. An hour later the most delicious meal was infront of me: fresh Talapia- deep fried in a little flour and salt, along with a tomato salad and avocado on the side. The meal was exquisite and I was lucky enough to get one of the big Talapia I had caught. This may just be the quickest and freshest I have ever eaten fish. Elizabeth's Mother offered to take me to Guatape - a small fishing village (2 hours away) I had hoped to visit whilst in the area. So we piled in the car - Elizabeth, her Mother, Aunt and her Neice; we had to make a short stop in the town for Elizabeth to do some paperwork. Unfortunately we got caught up for quite a few hours and in the end it was to late to make the trek out and back - they were so kind though they still wanted to go but I insisted not as it would be dark and everyone would be tired. Instead I went for a walk around the rural area where Eluzabeths farm was. I was walking along when I recognized the face of a Colombian woman I had met in the city yesterday - she had spoken to me in her very good Englush as her and her family have been living in Chicago for 23 years. Anyways she was a lovely old lady and she invited me to meet her family - her Mother and Nephew. They made me fresh Tomalles juice and gave me some fruit from their trees. Her Mother was 83 and running around like a 50 year old - it was such a nice thing to meet her family. They told me I will always be welcome at their home so I said my goodbyes and continued my walk. It started to get dark so I made my way back, cooked some dinner and called it a night.
