Today I was up early to pack my bags for Cartagena and Skype my parents. At about 9:30am I said goodbye to Khris's Dad and then Khris drove me out of the city to a bridge where I was to flag down a bus to Cartagena. The heat was intense and I had to wait only 20 minutes but it seemed like a lifetime in the intense heat. A guy also waiting told me which bus was headed to Cartagena, out I ran and jumped on as the bus coasted over the bridge. The bus was very spacious and even had a toilet, 2 hours later I arrived in Cartagena. From the bus terminal I had to catch a bus to my host Mel's place, the bus was easy to find and I even managed to pick up some fresh avocado off a guy selling on the corner of the street on the way. At 1pm I arrived at Mel's place and was met by a lovely smile and a big welcome hug. Mel had to go to work at 3pm so she had invited her Colombian friend and her business partner around to hang out with me and show me the city. We drove over to Bucagrande which is the wealthy part of the city and dropped Mel off, next we drove around the old city - beautiful beautiful colonial architecture and finally we went North of the city where the airport was located. At about 6pm we decided to walk around the wall of the city - as Cartagena is a walled city and has been looked after very well, the outer wall can be walked on almost the entire way around the city. From this view point you get an amazing view of the colonial style buildings and see why this is the most famous town in Colombia. After we had walked the wall and observed all the beautiful buildings we walked into the city and admired the squares, parks and monuments. We walked around for a few hours until Mel had finished and we met her over at the Marina. The girls grabbed something for dinner and then we headed back to Mel's house. Mel has some truly amazing stories like being bitten by a sea lion, getting married for a month and countless other adventures - for once (in a long time) it was not me telling all the stories and to say I came away without new motivation and direction would be a lie.
