Today I was up at the crack of dawn ready to make the day full of excitement, learning and fun - I am really feeling in my element here. For breakfast today the lovely nutritionist had the chefs give me porridge and Raisens an absolute treat after not getting anything yesterday. We did our pre-morning meeting, organized our things and made our way to class for our 9am start. Automatically I noticed the kids were in a much more relaxed state today and ready to involve themselves more with their peers and in our activities - everything you could possibly want as a teacher. Snack-time came and we as teachers used this time to work out a bit of a plan for the remainder of the morning only to find the remaining morning session would be extended as they expected the TV News channel to come visit and film us. I had devised an activity that involved lots of movement and complete student participation so my job was to run around and teach all the different groups. I decided to have someone record it to use as evidence of my English teaching/facilitating capabilities in 2014. The kids loved it and got really involved as I was trying to be as silly as possible and the kids ate it up. We headed to the assembly around midday and by 1pm the TV crew had not shown up so we went ahead with our games, presentations and my activity with the whole group. For lunch I had a real treat again with a typical bean and vegetable salad complete with a tomato salad with a huge piece of rock melon for desert - all the others were jealous again; turns out having some food allergies is finally working out for me. We didn't really get much of a break so I headed to the staff room and did some planning before heading back to the group. This afternoon we started making props for tommorows Lip-dub which the kids and us really enjoyed; ideas flowed, English was practiced and we made a good start to the props. Manuel came and got me late in the afternoon and took me into the city so I could change my bus ticket and whilst we were in their he also took me to the supermarket and be out me whatever I wanted. I felt a little bad getting such special treatment but agreed to take a few Tomatos, some incredibly delicious avocados, tuna and some tinned mussels - just incase one lunch or dinner the kitchen staff can't come up with something for me. We then headed to Manuel's girlfriends house to drop her off before heading back to the college. I had arrived just before dinner and so decided to take a quick shower (thankfully now knowing where the hot water system is located) before making my way to the dining room for dinner. Once again I was given the special treatment; a big chunk of chicken and a special cucumber and tomato salad with coriander and dessert was a huge chunk of watermelon wrapped up so I could eat later (dinner served really early here: 6:30pm). We then all headed to the staff room to make some more props and organise some things. At about 9:30pm whilst it was still light we had organized to walk up to the shop as a few of the girls wanted some snacks and other bits and pieces. We then headed back to the girls house and waited for the night-shift teachers to knock-off before having a few drinks and sitting around chatting. I found out some very interesting information about the real estate market in Chile and how easy it would be to get into right now - something to think about.
