Today the weather had cracked right up with wind, rain and cold temperatures so I slept a bit before taking Teres 3 dogs for a walk along the beach in the horrible conditions. Terre, Xavier and I then headed into town to collect a few last things for the party which included the mussels, clams and some more alcohol. Town was crazy with every man and his dog buying for today and tommorows celebrations. The horrible weather continued but it didn't matter we have a fun day ahead of us and a big BBQ tonight which will be undercover so no reason to complain. We visited a friend of Tere's and got some giant ferns that we would use in the Curanto tomorrow - the friend was a lovely old lady that invited us into her home and we got to see her madly preparing typical foods for New Year's Day celebrations. In the afternoon I had a bit of a nap in anticipation for the big night ahead. At about 5pm myself and Xavier lit the fire and prepared the flank of lamb on the stick that we would use like a rotisery slowly turning the side of lamb and then on the mesh grill we would cook the vegetables. Once everything was set and the fire was hot enough we started roasting the lamb, a big glass of red wine was poured and New Year's Eve celebrations began. It was great fun standing around the fire, slowly turning the lamb and sipping back on some nice red wine whilst the girls were inside preparing the salads, Cebiche and some alcoholic punch. Two more friends came around and we started on the punch and some strange seafood that we ate raw in a salad (this ended up being my downfall). We stuffed mussels with peppers, onions, sausage and cheese and placed on the grill, next we placed potatoes, onions, peppers and chillies and let them roast for about 45 minutes and eating them as they came of the grill. After about 5 hours the lamb was ready and the girls got everything ready inside whilst we cut up the lamb racks. Another huge feast began with salads, roast vegetables, Cebiche and literally half a lamb for just 6 of us. I hadn't even got half-way through my plate and it hit me; the alcohol and the raw seafood saw me rushing to the bathroom; throwing up and i hate to say it with a nasty bout of diarrhea. And unfortunately that was the end of my night having to go to bed and missing the start of the New Year.
