My last whole day in Salvador and to be honest I have nothing I really want to do except meet with Lara tonight and maybe go to a samba bar. It started raining at about 9am and continued for about 2 hours kind of limiting me on what I could get out and do. Around midday I went to the street markets to grab a few things so that I could cook lunch for Paulo to thank him for his hospitality. I made a Brazilian type Moqueca; which consisted of a vegetable, bacon and prawn soup slowly cooked in coconut milk and with some thing pasta added at the end. After lunch Paulo had to go out to a work thing so I decided to go back to the big shopping mall just down the road. Yesterday I had brought a universal adaptor for $15 and today I had found the same one at the supermarket for $8 so I was going to attempt to return it. I arrived at the shop where I had brought the adaptor and luckily the same guy was working and I explained to him that the adaptor didn't work for me - a small lie but I had to come up with something not just that I had found the same adaptor cheaper. Amazingly in the end when I asked if I could return he agreed and handed my money straight back - I surely wasn't expecting that. Feeling lucky and with a spring in my step I walked about an hour to the supermarket where I had seen the cheaper adaptor and brought that one = Winning. On leaving the supermarket there was a huge downpour of torrential rain and i had to wait it out - on the walk back there was a huge flood of water coming down the hill and staircase where I had to walk which made for an interesting experience. I then spent the next few hours at the house waiting to hear from Paulo and Lara; the weather got worse and worse and I imagined tonight's samba would be called off. Paulo got back and like I had thought it was not a good idea to go to samba tonight, I also heard from Lara who agreed it was not the best night for it. I had to go meet Lara to get my shoes (my only pair which I had left at her house) and thank her for everything she had done for me in Salvador. In the evening Paulo had a friend come around and we watched a very good film called "The Impossible" - a true story based on one familes fight for survival when the Giant waves hit Thailand many years back. The film brought up many emotions which included missing my family, missing the beautiful people and culture of South-east Asia and realizing how precious every minute we have is.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Store allowed me to return goods with full refund
- Film - The impossible
- When it rains it pours in Salvador; People stay inside
