Today I had to be up early as Lara was picking me up from the apartment at 7:30. I once again hadn't got much sleep because of the Mosquitos, heat, uncomfortable couch and also Guels son stayed on the floor next to me and snored incredibly loudly all night. Lara's Mother came with Lara and collected me at 7:30am; because of the bus strike no one had to go to work. After three words of hello and nice to meet you (in perfect English) the rest of the 1 hour car trip back out to Lara's not a word was spoken? I later found it that Lara's Mother doesn't speak English and only new the few greeting words - I felt terrible as I thought maybe she just didn't like me. We arrived at Lara's beautiful house and I was invited to join her family for breakfast. I had informed them I couldn't eat flour and milk and they looked at me as if I was nuts and tried to find something for me to eat - I saw they were scrambling eggs for the tapioca pancakes (that unfortunately i cant eat - as last time i had reaction) so I asked for an egg. I met Lara's Dad who was a nice and cheerful guy and I tried to talk to him in Spanish. After breakfast we sat around for a while before Lara's Mother kindly took us to the beach just down the road from the house. The beach I think was called Flamengo beach and it was very picturesque and had barely any tourists on it. Where we were was the surfing part and definitely not for swimming but this didn't matter we both just wanted to lay in the sun and get some colour. We ended up sun baking for a few hours before the sun got really intense and we agreed we should go for a walk along the beach towards the swimming and bar area. Later Lara's Mum came and collected us to take us back to the house for lunch. For lunch there was myself, Lara, her sister and her Mother; out came a huge bowl of salad and a tray of vegetables. Thinking it was going to be a vegetarian affair I piled my plate with salad and vegetables only to find the maids bring out a plate of roast beef, a plate of roast goat, feijoada and a bowl of rice- WOW and Lara's family are all thin so I could tell it was all on me to tackle my way through this mighty feast. The lunch was epic and I managed to unload about 4 servings - getting my red meat fix for the next week. After lunch we sat around for a while and then went for a drive around town - taking Lara's dog to the vet. We also picked up a few things from the supermarket as Lara was going to teach me how to make Brigadero; basically a chocolate lovers dream. We made three different types of Brigadero all of which just consisted of condensed milk and butter heated up in a Pan, chocolate coco was added to one and coconut to another: The result was Wow - deliciously sweet little chocolate delights eaten warm and straight out of the pan. My favorite was the one with coconut and both Lara and I had to put our spoons down as we couldn't stop eating these delicious little treats. Later Lara had to go and drop her maids off and so she would take me back to the city aswell; unfortunately the traffic was horrendous and we decided to head back to Lara's and wait for peak-hour to finish. It was great hanging out at Lara's and not only did I get a hot shower and another delicious serving of today's lunch but we got to talk more about travelling and hang-out like old friends. Around 9pm Lara took me back to the city and on arriving at the apartment I realized I had left my shoes at her place and so this would not be the last time we met. Arriving back at Guels the whole apartment was cleaned and they were once again on the whiskey and gearing up for a big party night. Unfortunately all my things had been out away and I couldn't find anything and my adaptor had disappeared. After looking around for 30 minutes we found my adaptor attached to Guels blown up microwave which had started smoking yesterday- I feared the worst and yes they had also blown up my adaptor which has been with me 3 years now. I was quite upset at this initially but really that wasn't going to make it any better so I tried to forget about it and hope that tommorow I could find a new one; because without it I would not be able to charge my phone or iPad. Guel and Eliane went down to the bar at about 11 whilst Guels son kept drinking and listening to music at home - I was tired so tried to get some sleep.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Flamengo beach - for surfers
- Maids - quite typical here in Brazil
- Brigadero - sweet sweet delicious snack
