An American Birthday!!! Today is my host Rachel's Birthday - so it was up to me to make sure she has an amazing day and has no time to think about missing her friends and family back home. I woke early and prepared a pancake castle with banana, granola, raisens, roast nuts, chocolate and Brazilian peanut butter along with some fresh coffee and fresh passionfruit juice. When Rachel woke I wished her a Happy Birthday gave her a small gift and served her breakfast - I think I like celebrating other people's birthdays more then mine. Rachel had a smile ear to ear and I could tell this was just the start of what was going to be a great day!! After breakfast we headed down the beach and had a really nice walk along to waters edge; talking about travel, life and everything else in-between. We had to be back at the house by 11am as some of Rachel's friends were coming around then to join us for lunch. Figuring I had a little time before the friends would arrive I headed down to Rachel's pool and laid in the sun for an hour. When I got back to the apartment Rachel's friends had arrived - they were actually two of her students who are also studying to become Doctors. The girls had brought chocolate cake and Brigadero and myself and Rachel started preparing the lunch: cheese burgers - of which I can't eat so I made myself a nice salad to go with the burger paddies. We sat around and chatted for a while before eating a really nice lunch and following up with some delicious chocolate cake. The plan then was to go to the nicest beach here in Recife; Boa Viagem - about a 45 minute bus ride away. The beach was really nice but unfortunately the huge skyscrapers were creating huge shadows covering the whole beach and hiding the sun from us. We got some seats and the girls got a couple of cocktails and what followed was a really nice afternoon at the beach. I swam, did some handstands - of which the people next to us found amazing and asked to video. We met another of Rachel's friends from couchsurfing and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the beach, chatting, drinking and being completely present in the moment. Later we visited a little street market where Rachel's friend kindly brought us all friendship bracelets. The bus ride back to Rachel's was quick and so we had some time to hang-out before Rachel headed out for her Birthday dinner. After Rachel's dinner she brought her friends back for Brigadero and chocolate cake of which I ate so much i felt sick (my nasty sweet tooth strikes again) and we sat around chatting and eating until just after midnight.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Boa Viagem - nicest beach in Brazil
- Water is really warm
