Recife for the Win!!!! My first day in Recife and the sun is out and it's a Sunday so everyone is relaxing at the beach. Rachel had got home very late so I figured she would sleep-in a lot so headed off to the beach early for a walk and to watch some of the locals kitesurfing. The beach is quite nice but probably not the best for swimming as the water is very murky - however people were out inforce enjoying the sunshine and making the most of their Sundays. Around midday I returned and luckily Rachel was up; the plan today was to go for a bike ride with one of Rachel's friends but after a number of calls and sitting around waiting we gave up and instead decided we would go visit the city centre. The bus came very quickly and luckily as it was Sunday there was no traffic and we were in the city within 45 minutes. The city centre was dead but we managed to find a little Sunday Fair where some locals were selling food, souvenirs, clothes and crafts. We stopped and got some Acai and wow it was incredible; covered in granola, toasted cereals, roasted cashews, condensed milk, honey and bananas - God I will miss this stuff when I leave Brazil. We walked around a little more and came across a picussion band practicing in the street so we stopped and listened a while before taking a bus back to Rachel's. We made a quick stop at the supermarket to get a few things for Rachel's Birthday lunch tommorow and I picked up a few of my favorite Brazilian candies as a small birthday gift for Rachel. In the evening Rachel went to a friends to watch a film so I stayed at her apartment and took the time to do some yoga and do a bit more trip planning.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Sundays in Brazil - nothing is open
- Acai with roast cashews and condensed milk
- Recife - very small city centre
