There is variety of junk food in China, especially with the different flavor of potato chips. Did you know Lays has chips with blueberries, cucumber, and hot fish flavors? Kyle has tried blueberries and cucumbers. They're disgusting, it's all salt with little flavor.
No drama today, we arrived on time to take the train to Suzhou. It's 81 km NW of Shanghai (1/2 hour on Bullet Train). While traveling on the train I could not help notice the amount of construction occurring in Shanghai. It seems like they are forever building high rises.
The traffic is crazy here! In Suzhou, the taxis drivers are very aggressive and I thought we were going to get into an accident a few times! Everyone honks to tell you to get out of the way. The intersections are crazy, pedestrians crossing when they shouldn't and cars don't obey the traffic lights.
In Suzhou we visited three poetic classic gardens - Humble Administrator's Garden, The Lion Forest Garden & The Master's of the Nets Garden. All three rock gardens are beautiful and my favorite was the Lions one. It was a giant maze and you weave in and out of the different rock structures. I can't imagine visiting these sights during, the crowds would be overwhelming since there are some very narrow corridors. If you are over 6 ft, you better be careful or you'll bump your head.
The people trying to sell you tours are very aggressive. They chased us several blocks trying to sell us on different tours. We hired one to provide us a ride to a garden. Well, prior to taking us to the garden, he peddled us to the canal. There are over 170 arch bridges over 32 km. We took a 40 minute tour down the canal, no skyscrapers are allowed, it has been deemed a historic district. Canal was nice to see, but it smells. I was glad to leave the boat after our ride.
We were suppose to head to another garden, but decided to go to the silk museum instead. Suzhou's silk fabrics & embroidery are world renowned. Instead of heading to a museum, the driver took us to a silk factory. I guess we weren't too bright since we fell into the typical tourist trap. Too early in the trip to purchase silk!
Tomorrow we leave Shanghai and head to Nanjing.
