Our flight to Shanghai from Toronto was delayed two hours, which meant we arrived around 5pm local time. I tried to watch three movies and ended up falling asleep, so don't spoil the endings to the Fighter, Rango or The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.
From the airport we took the maglev (magnetic levitation), this train travelled up to 300km/h & brought us to Longyang Lu station within 8 minutes. The ride was so smooth, it felt like we were flying. Whenever you enter a subway station all luggage/knapsacks must be x-rayed which can be annoying when you are trying to get to the hotel.
During the flight we discovered there is a real big typhoon (plum flower) passing through Eastern China and it should hit Shanghai August 6 (night).
It doesn't seem the 26 million people are too worried about typhoon since there were loads of people shopping or wandering around Nanjing Lu Pedestrian Mall. I don't think this city really sleeps! This street are lid up, kind of reminds me of Time Square withe all those neon lights and street vendors trying to sell you little electronic gadgets. There could be potential damage to my credit card(s) if I am allowed to shop!
We walked to the Bund tonight, it's a spectacular view. (see photo). It should be interesting to see this in the day light hopefully tomorrow and I am assuming Plumb Flower passes ... They never get the weather correct in Ottawa ...right???
