Left Beak Hills farm at 8.15 in pouring rain, went through the Broughton Plantation to get to Clay Bank Top rather than go via the Wain Stones as we'd have seen nothing since the clouds were so low. Yet another climb up onto the moor, Henry Steadman said it was all down hill - he lies. Very wet, very miserable, very exposed. Then a 5 plus mile trudge along a disused railway where we were blown sideways the entire way. After one little wrong turn we eventually reached the Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge, very wet and quite despondent. Super cosy inside with real fires, dried off a bit had some soup and a drink and then we were ready for off again! Walked along the road for a while - same conditions, eventually got onto tracks but so wet it was like walking through streams. Nothing to do but keep going kept hoping it was going to clear up but it never did. Finally got into Glaisdale at about 4.45, phoned our B and B for directions and fortunately they came and picked us up. Hard to believe the relentless wind and rain we've experienced today particularly in June. 20 miles.
