Easy relaxed start for a Sunday, didn't leave till 9.30. Walked through the town across the Eden by Frank's Bridge then started the 2 hour climb up to the Nine Standards. So lovely walking in the dry, got to the top in a howling, freezing wind so didn't want to hang around, but very impressive up there. After a bit of discussion decided to take the "summer" route over the boggy area. Oh boy was it boggy, lots of detours and wandering about trying to find a path but it was still good fun. The streams were also very full which made trying to cross them a very wet affair as most of the stepping stones were well under water. Plodged our way down to Ravenseat Farm where we were served an excellent cream tea in a wood shed, just what was needed to restore energy levels. Continued over wet, boggy ground till the road then just a short way to Keld. Reached our B and B at 3.30, not bad considering the state of the ground today. 12 and a bit miles.
