Last blog of the trip! Well, yesterday we visited Sintra. We saw the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, and the National Palace. It was wonderful! The narrow winding streets through areas of HUGE mansions to get there was worth the car-sickness! There was a lot of fog yesterday, so the views from the top of the castle walls weren't great, but there was a majestic feeling to it. Dinner was at a fancy seafood restaurant which was supposed to be know for its ham, but we didn't actually see ham on the menu. We did feel the prices were too high, but that's a first on this trip! Corri had (very tender) steak à Portuguese. MAC had garlic prawns (an appetizer which was plenty), Julie had spider crab soup to start, and both Julie and Andy had vegetable curry with fried bread.
Today we went to the National Carriage Museum. It was awesome! One was painted by a Carvalho, but that's the one given to a woman who married her nephew... We saw the beautiful navigator statue. The. We headed to Castle Sao Jorge. It was great-the weather was perfect and it lead to great views of the city! The rest of the day was shopping and eating. No extraordinary culinary experiences today (besides being told a restaurant that advertises ice cream didn't have any! Blasphemy!). Good food, per usual.
I think we are all ready to go home. Maybe not back to work, but certainly back to pets, family, and friends!
Thanks for following along!

Marsha Carvalho Noooooo... You CAN'T come home! I'm not ready yet! Jim and I have been loving your blog and now think that Portugal is another item on our bucket list. It seems so different from much of Europe that I've seen. Is that true? Thanks for carrying us in your back packs. We've loved it! Safe travels home. Your Mom is very worried about the weather in Newark!
