Hi all,
So you probably already know that I have fractured my leg (I am still behind on my journal) and if you didn't know then you're not paying attention!
Well, the day started really well, I was having a lovely time, chilling out in the sun and then I decided to take the last hour of my surfing lessons - biggest mistake of my life so far (well that and coming to Sydney, but that's another journal entry). I went to the surf shop and got ready for the lesson. I was looking forward to it as last time I was standing up alot more and managing to stay on the board for the whole wave. I had literally been in the water for about 15 minutes when I fell off, same as usual, apart from the crunch and then lots of pain! I stood up and hoped that it was just a knock and that the pain would go away. When it didn't I started to panic as the 10 foot board was still strapped to my other leg and the waves kept crashing down and so I was being dragged around by the surf board aswell! I finally got the instructors attention and they carried me out of the sea. At the surf shop they called for the nearest doctor who gave me pain relief and said I had to go for an x-ray. Off we went to the SOS clinic in Sanur where they took me for an x-ray. I honestly thought it was just a twisted ankle as the pain wasn't that bad - then again I am pretty hard when it comes to pain ha ha! Not so lucky though, they told me I had a fractured Fibular and that I would need an operation and would possibly have to go home! I was gutted. They then gave me an injection in my stomach, which, because of my rock hard abs, really hurt! This was to prevent DVT due to the tight cast they had to put on. So after they had wheeled me out, banging my leg on every doorway in the hospital (honestly it was like a carry-on film) they said that I can go home and come back the next day for the doctors recommendation another injection - yippee, can't wait.
On the way back to the hotel it suddenly dawed on me that I was on the second floor which meant stairs - great this just gets better! After moving hotels I just sat on the bed looking at the crappy bathroom wondering if I would ever shower again for fear of my life! How depressing. I then remembered that Liverpool were playing that night (Sunday afternoon in England) and so, bored of being depressed, I headed to the sports bar. Needless to say they lost but it was just what the doctor ordered (well they advised against alcohol actually) I had a good laugh with the lads at the bar who all wanted to know what I had done to my leg. After swapping injury stories with everyone I decided it was time for bed. A fractured leg is really tiring!
Wonder what I will do tomorrow......oh yeah that's right, get injected again!
Lots of Love Julie x x x
