Days Six and Seven - Feeling lazy (it was the weekend after all) we did a spot of shopping down George Street (albeit window shopping...we're getting ideas of how to spend our money when we return and no longer have to save!) and found the amazing new glass apple store with free internet wheeey. Made it to Circular Quay for a jet boat around the harbour (again) which was fun until we headed into some really strong wind and I couldn't breathe, I thought I was going to have a panic attack it was really strange but fine when I put my hands over my mouth to use like a paper bag. Had a tour around Suzannah Place, one of the first establishments set up by British settlers, with a quaint old style shop next door before going to the cinema to see American Teen, a rather strange documentary. That evening we got into the Christmas spirit by listening to Carols round the tree, then watched a street contortionist.
Sunday we made it to Olympic Park for a tour of the Anz stadium, bloody spectacular building with so many sporting memories. The afternoon was spent ay Sydney Aquatic Centre messing around in the pool, and lounging in the spa sauna and steam room coming out with fingers and toes like prunes. Dinner was had along Darling Harbour, and we again enjoyed listening to more carols. To bed for an early start...
Day Eight (monday)- Gor Strewth, early start at 6.00 dont think either of us were very happy about getting out of bed but hey ho. So yep...woke early, had brekkie, n off we went for the train..about 1hr or just over our guide book said. My bloomin arse! 2 hrs later we arrived at Katoomba, Blue Mountains and purchased our tickets for the days and for the scenic railway. This i new would be brilliant as id been before so was rather excited.
So we hopped on the bus which took us to the first part of the scenic railway, the skywalk-a big cable car like box that takes you from one side of the gorge, over it, and to the other. It had an electric glass floor that disappeared when you were half way over so you could see the drop. Brilliant! So we got over the other side and took the steep train down...now i mean steep, its 52 degrees which, when your sitting down n going down a mountain side is pretty steep. So we got to the bottom n started walking, desciding it would be fun to take one of the longer walks and not stick to the main 'normal' track...this would have been a good idea had it not been for the trees we had to just over, te rocks underfoot and......the fact Tilly was wearing flip flops, and Judith was wearing pumps. So we turned back and opted for the middle of the 3 'normal' walks with a time of 30mins. This was lovely and we got back to the cable car which took us up to the top again and to our bus.
Next came the walk to the 3 sisters which was only 1km so that was nice n gentle n the view was amazing....perfect except for the massive flys (BIG) that kept landing on us n in our hair! it was horrible! So again we hopped on the bus and headed down a little bit further so we could do a longer walk to the Gordon falls (which we were told were not brilliant, but we thought the walk would be nice) so we walked, and walked, still in the same footwear and now on rocky ground like what we had previously turned back from. Anyway, we still hadnt come across these bloomin falls n it was getting on for the hour, but we trudged on anyway....finally reaching.....the end! Where the bus driver said he would pick us up from! What?! Puzzled, we asked to randomers where to go and they directed us...so we began our short walk to the falls...and it started tipping it down....as in, actual massive rain drops! so we seeked shelter and waited 20mins for it to stop before again setting of for the same goal we had been working towards for the last 2 hrs. And we got to not the falls themselves but the lookout, which, as we walked up we thought we would just settle for that as feet were now hurting a little. So we got to the edge and looked over and the sight...you wouldnt believe it..it was amazing..ly crap! ok i exagrerate. it was ok but was infact just some piddly water coming from the rock...not quite the 'falls' we had got ourselves ready for...so back to the bus it was.
Bygone Beautys was next where we enjoyed a Devonshire Tea (Tea...and strainer, scones, cream and jam) absolutely delicious...and all of this surrounded by a lovely view...of tea pots! It actually was really nice and very homely. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Train back took just as long but i think its fair to say that the sights were thoroughly worth the walking and the 2 hrs there and back!
