Day Four - Again, another jam packed day of sightseeing. Made our way to the Queen Victoria building, a large beautiful shopping mall full of designer brands which we clearly could not afford, but was nice to look around all the same. We got noticed yet again, this time by a chinese gentleman who wanted a photo with us, we've been told it's something to do with our fair skin and hair (or white in J's case). We then went to the Sydney Tower, similar to the CN Tower in Canada, for 360 degrees panoramic views at the highest point in Sydney. Prior to this was a virtual ride taking you around the sights of Sydney, we're such children we loved it!
Next was the Museum of Sydney (yes we are cramming in as much as we humanly possibly can, we have paid for a 7 day card after all!) telling the story of the city from the early Aboriginals to the present day Australians. British colonization began in 1788, and the city celebrated its Bicentenary in 1988...brief history lesson for you there :) After this came a tour of the opera house by a little gay chinese man who kept making us laugh, the architecture is absolutely beautiful and we were allowed to take photos apart from in the concert halls themselves - Meaners we thought you would appreciate these. A sumptuous dinner of Mcdonalds was to keep us going and we quickly changed into our dresses for the spectacular show ahead of us - Handel's Messiah by the Sydney Philharmonia. The concert hall was absolutely huge fitting 2500 people, and we had a brilliant view towards the back able to take in the large choir and orchestra. The sound was phenomenal, as you would expect, and we came out to view Sydney at night for the first time, magic. I realize that I've used a hell of a lot of adjectives but I can't describe it in any other way!!
Exhausted, we made it back to Base to four new room mates. the New Zealanders moved out that morning, and moved in was a young British girl Holly, a guy from the Netherlands, and a young British couple who hadn't booked anywhere in Sydney so was moving around constantly. To Friday...
Day Five-We started he day rather early much to our dismay.Half past 6! yep! Strewth! This was due to the fact we have to be down at the harbour for a morning tour to Manly at 8.10am. So as we got near to the meeting place we realised we would be late so ran the last little bit, only to find the bus was about 10 mins late anyway. Finally the bus turned up and we were told we were booked on the one yesterday...which we did not ask for.....so we could only get on this full one if people didnt turn up...which luckily they didnt. So we go on the bus and enjoyed a few photo stops which include one with a view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and also one of Manly, and then finally head on down the beach. Today was a little overcast so the beach was more-or-less empty so we had a coffee at the cafe which overlooked the sea and just sat chilling for about half hour. This was lovely and the late was one of the best we have tasted. We did however walk along the beach back to our bus and we are looking forward to going on one of our days next week. When we got back it was lunch so we made pasta back at the hostel, before heading down to see the movie Australia at the cinema on Circular Quay. I wont say too much but it was absolutely brilliant. J and I cried numerous times and these were big crys. Although it is nearly 3 hours long it is amazing and you never want it to end. We came out and were just amazed.Still talking about it went and sat in the Botanical Gardens again and read our books n listened to the sea.We then enjoyed our first meal out! Which happened to be a pizza at a restaurant nearby the Quay. This was thoroughly enjoyable and we felt stuffed before heading up to the market in The Rocks. The market however turned out to be a smal and expensive one...not quite what we had in mind so we left hastily...me with a chocolate strawberry in hand and Judith with the intention of getting a Baskins Robbins along the Harbour edge.So that is where our day ended....enjoying these :)
