First things first we both arrived safely in Sydney and after talking about it and planning the trip for so long it was biazarre to think our arrival had finally come. Accomodation very basic, but clean and what else can you expect for 14 quid a night?! Sharing with three New Zealanders here fresh out of college on a uni reunion.
Day One - Cheated jet lag by sleeping just before we landed around 7am Oz time, 9pm British time and made it through...just about...finding our bearings, having a wander around the shops and Darling Harbour.
Day Two - Had a leisurely morning then took a stroll down George Street, the main street in Sydney, towards Circular Quay home of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. As expected, both were absolutely phenomenal. Tilly told me to close my eyes, and led me around the corner to the Opera House, where I may have screamed slightly...To no surprise there were the usual tourists milling around, including a large Chinese school aged around 11-12. As we were walking up the steps, Tilly noticed two girls running up behind us yelling 'photo photo'. We automatically assumed they wanted us to take a photo of them..but no they wanted a photo of the two of us..so bizarre. This happened a further two times, they must have thought we were some Oz celebrities or something..had lunch on the opera house stairs and took a walk through the royal botanic gardens close by. We then headed over to the Harbour Bridge for our Bridge Climb where we wore these oh so very attractive suits, a harness and did a 'bridge simulator' before heading onto the actual bridge. Stunning views and absolutely worth it. Knackering day topped off with soup and bread for dinner :) We're on a budget you know!
Day Three - With our SeeSydney cards lasting a week, we are fitting in as much as we can, and so today we started by visiting the Chinese Gardens of Friendship given by the Chinese to the Ozzies for there Bicentennial celebrations, we then took a JetBoat from Darling Harbour (very fast with 360°spins!) and saw the harbour, then had a bus tour around the city stopping at Bondi Beach for some sun sea and sand. I tell you what, this tourist business is tiring, once our card has run out, next week will be good for some chill out time at Sydney's various stunning beaches.
So as a finale for our first blog...our trip up until now has been most enjoyable, tiring, and one of which we have never experienced anything like before. So we shall post again soon and keep you updated with out travels. Tomorrow we are actually going into the Opera House to see Handels Messiah be performed by the Sydney Philharmonia Choir! Cannot wait!
PS. Only a few photos, as they take bloody ages to upload! More to follow..
