We arrived in Harrisburg on Tuesday the 27th and went directly to dress rehearsal. The theater was beautiful, with 2 balconies that were decorated with waves (representing the river) and these long stemmed lights (representing a certain kind of flower from the area. Our opening went quite well. The whole week actually was nice. There had been a fear that the Pennsylvanians might not appreciate a lot of the humor in the show, but most of the audiences were extremely responsive. Our closing in Harrisburg was incredible. We had the orchestra seating and first balcony completely filled and they laughed at everything. It was an incredible feeling. I also am discovering that I absolutely love performing this show with my current cast. It is very obvious that they love this show and that they love doing it, which makes it that much more fun to be up there with them. Barb Hetrick came to see the show with some family. It was marvelous seeing her again. Sam also came to the show, and we had a great evening together, catching up with each others' lives.
Harrisburg was a very quaint little city, and not what you would expect from the state capital. I didn't get to see too much of the northern part of the city, but I did walk around quite a bit right around our hotel (the Crown Plaza) and the Whitaker Center. Katie and I visited the Capital building, which was gorgeous! Unfortunately the gardens were under construction, but the detail around the actual building was incredible. The main entrance has a group of statues on both sides, and looking out from the capital you get a beautiful view following State St. (which is lined with churches of several different denominations) down to the Susquehanna river.
Our last evening in Harrisburg I got to spend with some very dear friend. Sarah came to visit (unfortunately the show had been canceled so we just had dinner) and then after that April, Dan, and the Courtney's came to hang out for the eveing. It was so wonderful seeing them again. I miss everyone so much, and wish we could have spent some more time together :)
