Oh my goodness! I have been absolutely awful at updating lately! Well, since Hartford, WI we have been to Van Wert, OH, Dearborn, MI, Johnstown, PA and Pittsburgh. So... I guess I'll just try and give a little blurb about each :)
Van Wert, OH: A nice small town. We arrived Monday night, had 2 shows on Tuesday and left for Dearborn on a Wednesday so I really didn't get to see to much of it, nor did I really do much while I was there. From driving through it, it seemed like a nice town. Emily played Karen for both shows, and since she had now already had one performance under her belt, we were able to actually play a little bit which was nice :) Audiences were great, and Jean and I did an interview for the Black Swamp News (I think that is what it was called). I have to say, I'm not the best at interviews. I was asked what the show was about, which is a hard question to answer because for those of you who have seen the show, you will know that there isn't exactly a strong through line or plot in the show. Its more about the people and their roles in each others lives... but you can't really say that in an interview... it wouldn't really be very good PR for the show. Luckily, Jean helped me out a bit :)
Dearborn, MI: Very fun. The day we got there was Scott's birthday, so we all went out for dinner at a place called Big Fish. It had delicious seafood, and really good Mojitos. I tried a Pomegranate Mojito and a Mango Mojito and well, they were both very different, but really quite delicious. It was great to be out with the entire company, well, almost. It was a wonderful evening of great company, wonderful food, and of course ended with cake :) Thursday we only had a matinee, after which Jean and I drove into Detroit to Greek Town for some Greek Food, and oh was it good. We of course had some Saganaki (Flamming Cheese) and then I ordered Stuffed Grape Leaves with some sort of Lemon Sauce on top and Jean had a Combination Plate that gave samples of pretty much every kind of Greek staple dish there is. She let me try several of them as well...hmmm... Greek food is GOOD! We then went into the Greek Town Casino, which was my first time in a Casino ever. I played several penny slots... put in $3 of my own money, got all the way up to $40 at one point... and then started losing. Finally cashed out at $10. So I still more than doubled what I put in, though I should have cashed out at $40.... ah well. It was all in good fun, and we had a great time. We then ended the evening with a mini baklava, which, I usually don't like cause they are too sweet for my taste, but this one wasn't overly sweet and I LOVED it :) We also went to the Ford Museum/ Greenfield Village, which was very cool and very interesting :) Who can say now to walking through a colonial type town and then going into amuseum that displays the history of Ford Cars, Planes, and well, life in America. It was pretty awesome. I really enjoyed performing in Dearborn. Although they weren't some of the most responsive audiences, it was interesting to feel how the audience grew more comfortable through the run of the show. Some of the shows started off extremely quiet, and as they realized what was happening and that it was ok to laugh, they grew more and more uproarious. It was very cool to witness.
Johnstown, PA: We flew into Pittsburgh and the drove to Johnstown on Monday. We had two wonderful shows on Tuesday and then now shows again until Saturday in Pittsburgh... It was a wonderful thing. Because of the G20 in Pittsburgh we had to stay in Johnstown till Saturday morning. At first I wasn't too excited about this because, well, there isn't too much to do in Johnstown. But that made it all the more relaxing on our days off. My friend Fang came to visit for a few days and we went into the actual town and walked around for a while. We searched for the famous lookout that was supposed to be really nice, but all the directions we got from the internet never led us there, but in search for it we did get to see some interesting neighborhoods. So that was cool. On Friday Katie and I went to see FAME, which I was rather impressed with. It wasn't the greatest movie in the world, but being one who went to school for theater and yada yada yada, a lot of things hit really close to home in it. Additionally, I really appreciated the fact that they didn't try to remake the original, but rather made it their own. So that was nice as well.
Pittsburgh, PA: Two shows on Saturday, two on Sunday. So again, there wasn't much time to look around. We stayed at the Downtown Marriott, which was beautiful... and had the most comfortable beds EVER! I was very pleasantly surprised with our audiences as well. They were beautifully rambunctious and got every single line and joke! It was awesome. Definitely not what I was expecting because from past shows it was normally the shows that weren't in small towns and outside of the Midwest that had the quieter viewers...well, Pittsburgh broke that stereotype :) It was awesome. We performed at the Byham theater, which was beautiful as well. Had a huge mural of cherubs above the proscenium arch. it was gorgeous.
Well, there you have it, a short summary of the last 2 weeks. Monday we had to be out and going at 4:15 am... BLAH. I didn't really sleep much, but that's alright. We also almost missed our connecting flight in Minneapolis because of the delay of our first flight due to bad weather. But we made it and now we are in Minot, ND for the largest Scandinavian Festival of the US, Horst Fest. It should be an interesting week :)
