On June 2nd we caught the 7:45 Ferry that runs from Tsawassen to Nanaimo British Columbia. The Ferry is huge with restaurant, snack bar, gift shops and even workstations for those that are catching up on work on their way across.
After a wonderful breakfast we went up to the front of the boat and met a couple that were going to see their grandchildren in Duncan. We had a very nice chat with them - they explained about why the water was very brown for part of the way - Fraser River and also pointed out various other Ferries and where they were going.
After arriving at Brent and Kelly's we arranged to meet Moe & John and Dave & Diane at the Dinghy Dock for lunch. You can get there by car from Lady Smith and then take a small ferry but the four of us went in Brent's boat. They keep it at a very nice marina which also has Kelly's dragon boat moored. It was a rough ride over and took about an hour but it was much smoother coming back.
Lunch was fantastic with some wonderful friends. It truly is nice to get to see folks in their home territory.
The next day (Tuesday June 3rd), Kelly had a golf tournament so we decided to go into Victoria to see the Vikings Exhibit at the Royal British Columbia Museum. The exhibit was amazing and we even watched the IMAX film on the Vikings - I think the screen was 61 ft high and 82 ft wide.
We had lunch at a pub - Darcy's - that overlooked the harbour so we could see boats coming and going as well as float planes.
We stopped into a winery on the way back - Cherry Point - but it was actually closed so we did not get a tour but I did get to sample 2 wines. Of course I bought a bottle of each.
Our friends Barb and Howard live in an RV park in Crofton during the summer and had asked us to come for crab dinner. They have just starting fishing for crab and prawns and are having a fun time doing it. We were pleased to see Dave and Diane there. I am sure that they are still talking about the guy from Ontario that picked up his crab legs and smashed them against the board and crab meat went flying everywhere. It was an amazing dinner.

Diana & Dave It was wonderful that you two made the journey to Vancouver Island and get together with you, not once, but twice. Yes we are still talking about Jack and his approach to opening up the crab. I do have to say though, he definitely took Barb's instructions very well, when she said for him to wack the crab on the board. She just forgot to say, "with the hammer". To safe travels.
