Hey everyone! So I just got back from Rome, and I am super exhausted so this might be short! There is so much to see in Rome and it is all very beautiful! It actually rained the first day quite a bit which is rare fore Italy but it did still clear up.
We got into Rome by train late Thursday night and went out to dinner. Then we did some major sight seeing on Friday. We visited the Trevi Fountain, where I threw 2 coins over my shoulder, guarateeing that I wil return to Rome (actually in about a month!) and I will fall in love. We also saw and climbed the Spanish Steps, which were actually built by the French, but that is a whole other story. While there, we were very popular with a tour group of Malaysian teenagers, they wanted a picture with us because we were American girls! After that we walked around the ancient Roman ruins of the Roman Forum and saw the breathtaking Coliseum! To complete our day, we ate dinner and mingled at the Campo di Fiori, a flower market that transforms into a night hotspot.
On Saturday, we visited the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. I was not as amazed as I thought I would be with the Sistine Chapel, it was very beautiful but the room in itself was small, dark and crowded. The Last Judgement is a beautiful painting though. Saint Peter's was one of my favorite places in Rome. The term "jaw-dropping" must have been invented when someone walked into St. Peter's. The size of the building mixed with the dome, sculptures, baldacchino, and of course Michelangelo's famous "Pieta" are so astounding, I took about a hundred pictures! Of course, I heard that the Vatican postal service is very fast and reliable so I sent my parents a postcard from the Vatican!
Later on, we stopped by Castel Sant' Angelo, Piazza Navona, and Pantheon for some photos. That night we went on a famous Roman pubcrawl!
I did break my promise to myself and had a cheeseburger at McDonalds during this trip....it was too convenient! tsk tsk
I am taking a break from traveling this weekend and sleeping in, going to a Tuscan cooking class, and exploring Florence. Ciao!
