Hello everybody!! I just got back from my study trip to Paris, France! I was very busy while I was there, so I jam packed almost everything I wanted to see in less than 2 days! First off, I took my first overnight train on Wednesday night and boy was that interesting! I had the top bunk and I kept sliding off everytime the train would stop. It was a long 12 hours.
Once I got into Paris, my study group had a list of required appointements. We visited Colette Departement Store, Li Edelkoort Forecasting services; where I got to see a trend forecast video for Summer 2010, and a fashion show at the Paris-American Academy. After my long day, I got a bowl of french onion soup and a glass of champagne and fell asleep.
On Friday, the group visited Premiere Vision, which is the world's largest Fabric show. There I got to see every fabric imaginable and see the fabric trends of Fall/Winter 2009. My favorite fabric was this amazing embroidered silk. Then the goup ventured back into the city to see a fashion show at the Galeries Lafeyette, a huge department store with all of the luxury brands. After wandering around Paris a bit, I went to the Louvre. The Louvre was definitly a hightlight of my trip to Paris. There is so much beautiful art there, just hanging in room after room. I was very overwhelmed at first but managed to see all the pieces I had interest in (many :-) in about 2 hours (I walked fast!) Then I went to the Eiffel Tower at night, ate a yummy banana nutella crepe and went to bed.
Saturday was my free day to wander Paris so I woke up early to get to the Musee D'Orsay, filled with Impressionist paintings and sculptures. I loved this museum as well! They had many pieces from artists such as Monet, Matisse, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh, Tulousse-Letrec, and Rodin. Many of the Degas dancer sculptures and painting are housed there so it was cool to see those! After making a wrong turn on the RER, I made it to the Eiffel Tower! Waiting in line for about an hour was so worth it after I made it to the very top! I took an elevator of course! The view of all of Paris is breathtaking! Next we went to the Opera Garnier, the ornate opera house that "Phantom of the Opera" was based on. The building is like a wedding cake with chandeliers and paintings...I only wish I could have seen a show there. Continuing my crazy day, I grabbed a quick Croq Monsier (ham and cheese sandwich dipped in egg and friend) and headed to Notre Dame Cathedral. Although we didn't get the chance to climb the bell towers, we did get to see mass there, which was beautiful...there was a lady singing opera! Later that night (my feet were falling off by now! haha) I took a boat tour on the Seine River at sunset and then ate dinner at Johnny Depp's resturant "World Place".
On Sunday, I visited the Palace of Versailles and saw the Royal Apartments and Gardens (unfortunately, Marie Antoinette's Petite Trianon was closed), grabbed one last crepe and flew home to Florence Sunday night! It was quite a trip! And even though I could not speak a lick of French, I loved it!
