Hey everybody! So my computer is fixed so I will be able to keep up with my blog for the last month of my trip!! As of today I have 30 days left in Europe which is unbelievable! Since I last blogged....I visited Assisi, the Umbrian town home of St. Francis of Assisi, Italy's patron saint; celebrated Halloween in Florence; went to a Historical Costume Seminar in Florence, and this past weekend I visited Prague in the Czech Republic! I loved Prague! It was very similar to a Christmas Village you would get at Hallmark (but the Christmas decor was just being set up). We (me and my friend Melissa) took an overnight bus there and back. We stayed with a student travel group based out of Florence so we met alot of cool people our age also studying in Florence.
Back to Prague, on the first day, after discovering a Starbucks of course, we took a walk around the Old Town and New Town. In the Old Town Square, there is the Astronomical Clock, Tyn Cathedral and Jan Hus Memorial Fountain. It is a very picturesque square. We also saw the Charles Bridge and I got some really great pictures there as well. Then we experienced authentic Czech food with some goolaush (sp?) for lunch. After lunch, we were free to explore New Town...which is basically a giant outdoor shopping mall! The Czech to dollar rate was quite good so I took the liberty to do some shopping in stores like Zara and H n M. Later that night, we went with the group to a 5 story Czech club with each floor having a different theme. We mostly stayed on the Disco floor haha.
Next day, I got up and took a tram to the other side of the Vltava River to Prague Castle. It is the largest Castle in Europe and inside, St. Vitus Cathedral is the most visited attraction in Prague. The church was beautiful and was just finished 50 years ago. After exploring, we walked around Mala Strana or Lesser Town. It has little shops and resturants and is much like a colllege town atmosphere. For lunch I had some good Czech food at an old brewery, and apple strudel. Later as it got dark (at 4 in the afternoon!) We explored more of Old Town and ate at Bohemia Bagel...Prague's answer to Panera. It was delish!!! I got a bacon egg and cheese (cheddar!!!) bagel sandwich and it was awesome. Headed in for an early night and the next day we were back on the bus for another 12 hour journey...but we watched some great movies on the way like Old School and Walk the Line! Had an amazing time and can't wait to share my stories when I come back! Ciao Ciao
