Day 6 in Palau
Another day of banana pancakes for breakfast and a relaxing morning. We were going to visit the jail gift house, but as we were walking down the street we found out that the dog show was going on so we decided to stay and watch it. I am so glad that we stayed to watch it because it was a riot to watch.
Some of the categories were: Best ears, happiest dog with the best tail wag, best trick, best eyes and owner/dog costumes/dressup (aka owners who look like their dog). I'll be posting some pictures and videos when I get a chance to get to the high speed internet place again.
Then came the part where the three of us just about split a gut laughing...agility. Apparently they've never seen or heard of agility. This lady was trying to show people what it was...walking to the obstacles, jumping over the poles...crawling on her hands and knees to get through the covered tunnel...going in and out of the poles...you get the point. She also made it easy on them, they could keep their dogs on the leash. First off, most of the dogs refused to jump over the poles. Then there was the vertical poles (this is the part we were reallly laughing about) - the owners were walking through the poles and keeping their dogs to the outside of the poles; then, as they had to go through them the second time, they made the dogs walk in and out (some followed, or pulled, their dogs
through). I wish I would have had my other memory card with me to record this part...it was very entertaining.
We left just before the Best in Show and headed over to the Belau National Museum. Lots of fascinating displays about the history of Palau...from the Spanish occupation, to the German, to the Japanese and then American.
Spent about 2 hours reading the information on the signs then went home.
We then headed to the Drop Off bar for dinner. We had a really nice garden salad and a vegetarian pizza (no cheese or mushrooms). I got to meet their friend Daryl and he joined us and we talked for at least an hour or more. Came home and watched part of a movie and waited for the left over coconut ice cream to thaw out enough to serve. So now it's 9:23 pm and time for bed. If I were back home, I'd be waking up about now (5:23 am).
