"He's from South-East London. If he sees a mixed raced guy looking at his sisters boobs he'll kill me. " - John (about Phil)
After an over night minibus, we arrived in Chiang Mai, my favourite place I have been to in Asia. I enjoyed it so much last year and it was on the way, so I decided to take the other two there.
We checked into The Little Bird Guesthouse and grabbed a quick nap. We then headed on to Tiger Kingdom, where we went in cages with the biggest and smallest tigers.
That evening we went to watch the Muay Thai (Thai Boxing), which included one round of three men blindfolded fighting. We were joined for the boxing and dinner by Jo and Vicky, but unfortunately Tash was too ill to join us.
After the Muay Thai, Rosella and Phil went to bed and I headed to the pub to watch the Chelsea match - #tableforone. On Sunday, Rosella and Phil headed on a day out which included white water rafting, bamboo rafting, and elephant riding. As I had done this day trip last year, I decided to give it a miss and take the day chilling out. I napped and chilled with a few people at the hostel.
That night, when the others got back, we headed to the night market. We were joined by Renee (Holland), Jackie (Scotland), and Tom and John (England). After lining our stomachs at the market we headed back to the hostel for some drinking games. After a couple of hours of drinking we headed out to the Reggae Bar. As we were leaving a girl called Kat arrived. She checked in and then came straight out with us. After a bit of a dance and some drinks, the Reggae Bar closed about 2am. We weren't ready for the night to end and so asked the tuk-tuk drivers to take us somewhere that was still open. Scotland didn't like this idea and turned into some weird psychob****. The rest of us got a lift and were dropped at a hotel. We went in to the hotel bar and it was full of wealthy locals who started giving us drinks (I think because we were Westerners).
Anyway after a couple of free whiskeys and gins the hotel bar started closing, handing out popcorn as they cleared the tables. We then went outside and got a tuk-tuk to the next bar that was still open. We arrived at Lucky Bar. It was open until 5am and was again full of wealthy locals. We had a couple of drinks, a dance, and chatted to the locals, before heading home to bed.
The next day was pretty chilled/lazy. Sleeping in and hanging around the hostel all day, except for when we headed to McDonalds. That evening we chilled in the hostel with a few casual drinking games before heading to bed about one.
This morning we got up and headed to a cooking course with four other people from the hostel. There was Tom and John, Renee, and Kat, a fellow Maths teacher. It was the same course as I went on last year so I knew it would be good fun. I made Drunken Noodles, Chicken with Cashews, Chicken Coconut Soup, Fried Spring Rolls, Massaman Curry, and Banana with Coconut Milk. Renee and I made three dishes the same and so made it into a competition with Tom being the judge. He voted a 2-1 win in Renee's favour and he was probably right.
After the cooking course we headed straight for the train station where we got our night train back to Bangkok.
