Day 17 (7 of trip) = 17th November 2008 - Sihnaoukville, Cambodia
Today was finally beach day, on the South West coast of Cambodia, located off the Gulf of Thailand was Sihnaoukville! As soon as the bags were dumped in the room and some sunscreen applied, the beach was calling. We headed straight for the private beach of Sokha. It was owned by the Sokha Beach Resort five star hotel and resort, but for a few bucks the pool, bars and beach were accessible! It was heaven, white sweaky sand, blue clear skies and clear water! It was just what everyone was craving and didn't disappoint.
Later that evening we headed down to the public beach (Serendipity beach - very touristy) for dinner. We sat on the sand and had our dinner and buckets of cocktails. It was very relaxing and enjoyable, the food was good (although as I'm post writing this, it turns out one of the girls got very bad food poisoning here.Jack and I eat there three times and were fine though, thankfully). After a few cocktails and beers we hit Utopia Club, which was more of an empty bar than a club.
Day 18 (8 of trip) = 18th November 2008 - Sihnaoukville, Cambodia
Day 8 of the trip, five of us decided to go on a boat ride out to the islands near Sihnaoukville, including lunch on Bamboo Island, snorkeling, fishing and sun bathing. The day started well, with a lift to the boat in an old open-top Jeep, as we headed out to sea, the clouds got greyer and the weather turned for the worse.
For the next two hours, it rained solidly; it rained hard and was like being in the middle of a tropical storm. We managed to reach Bamboo Island and just decided to jump straight in the sea and mess about as it was warmer in the sea than standing in the rain! The beach looked lovely through the rain drops and I could imagine it would be picture card perfect, shame about the weather. It cleared up slightly and the lunch was good.We headed off for some snorkeling (which was rubbish), but the fishing was more successfully.Never fished before in my life, and managed to bag a fish! Result.
It was Clare's birthday celebration that night, so we went to a restaurant for some Mexican and had a beach party theme. After several "happy hour" jugs of Angkor, we hit the bars on the beach. It wasn't very busy, although we found one bar, where we managed to dance the night away, so much so I can't really remember what happened.Although I do remember Clare and Soph mounting a 10ft golden lion in the middle of a roundabout and giving it a grope…
Day 19 (9 of trip) = 19th November 2008 - Sihnaoukville, Cambodia
Day of recovery from the night before, lunch on the beach, hit the private beach for some last ditch sunbathing… that was about it, I think?
