Hello everyone, I've just finished at my first destination, Hong Kong.Hong Kong seems to be the land of Starbucks, Tall Buildings, Neon Lights and Sony PSPs (every other person seems to play on one). It's an amazing city, lots to do and see, I think I managed to do the majority of all the items listed in the tourist guides.I have taken hundreds of photos, I'll try and upload a selection shortly. After my flight from Heathrow, I turned up at Hong Kong International Airport with no hostel booked and no real idea of where to go (really wish I had prepared a bit better on the hostel side of things).Thankfully I managed to get hold of a Netbook before I left and the whole of Hong Kong seems to be one big wireless network, so I managed to book somewhere on the net from the very cool Hong Kong International Airport.I then zipped into town on the express train and found my hostel.Located quite centrally on the mainland in Chucking Mansions, TST, although Mansion, it was not!!After spending one night in what was probably smaller than a prison cell, I checked out and headed south to Hong Kong Island.I found a very pleasant brand new 8 bed mixed dorm a little further afield in Fortress Hill, the Yes Inn.I stayed here for the remainder of my time and meet several lone travelers all of whom were using HK as a hub to reach all different weird and wonder locations.I have travelled on the MTR everywhere mainly, it's a quick, fast, air-conditioned and clean version of our underground.I even bought myself an Octopus card (like an Oyster).I saw a lot of tall buildings, and took a photo of most. The architecture was something else, as were the views for the middle of the Bank of China Tower and from the top of the Peak, after getting the Peak Tram up to the Sky Plaza to see out over the whole of Hong Kong. After venturing around Central (the business district), I jumped on the famous star vary and crossed to the mainland to watch the Lightshow.Where numerous skyscrapers in the central area are cover from top to bottom in lights and laser and dance along to some cheesy Chinese pop music for 15minutes every day of the week at 8pm, 365 days a year.I managed to meet up with a friend from home, James, who has been travelling the world and was, by chance, in Hong Kong when I arrived. So we went out for some drinks (in the red light district) and found some cheaper bars and a real local backstreet restaurant!I also visited the Jordan Street night market, had some food on the street and also visited the trendy night districts of SoHo, although the price of a Carlsberg was $50 - $60 which is £5ish, so London prices.Other highlights also include visiting the local parks, zoo, gardens, (many very large) shopping malls, and lots of other things Hong Kong has to offer.Towards the end of the week I took a bus ride down to the South of the Island to Stanley. Here I wondered around a famous market, had some lunch on the sea front and then headed off to Repulse Bay, one of Hong Kong's beautiful bay beaches. On my penultimate day in Hong Kong I went to Disneyland Hong Kong.It was great fun, like being a little kid again, seeing Mickey & Mini, Buzz Lightyear, Goofy and Co!I managed to pack a lot in and decided to move my flight to Thailand forward by a couple of days, to experience the city before I start on my forty day trip round Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.I'm currently flying to Bangkok and managed to make my connection flight which departed 40minutes after my first flight landed, just hope my bag has also made it....On to Bangkok until Wednesday morning to get hassled by Tuk Tuk and Taxi drivers now (so I've been told)...?Anyway, looking forward to somewhere a bit cheaper. The weather had been great, 30+ almost every day which is great, although the very high humidity takes some getting use to....I don't know how easy to connect to the internet will be in Thailand and Cambodia. But will update when I can...Hope your all fine and well... speak soon.Jonny x
