We have arrived in Rio this morning. Bit strange at first and a little sacry. Checked into hostel and its really nice. We have a 4 bedded dorm and our own bathroom. Its not 5 star but perfect for what we need.
We took a walk this afternoon and had lunch on Copocabana. Was amazing to be sitting there and to think we were actually in Brazil!!!!
We are going to go to see the statue or sugar loaf mountains tomorrow so will update after that and will hopefully have some pictures to add.
Going to have a night at hostel tonight as drinks are cheap and there is a quiz so fingers crossed we win!!! That will mean free dinner tomorrow as thats the prize ha ha.
Hope everyone is ok and will update soon.
Bye for now xxx

Just a quick update - yesterday went to Copocabana beach and it was HOT HOT HOT!! In the evening we went to Sugar Loaf mountain which was brilliant and got some great pictures! It cured my fear of heights anyway!
Rained a bit today so just relaxed and had a nice lunch.
Praying for good weather tomorrow so we can hit the beach again.
Hope everyone is good and talk soon xx

Jonny and Steven went to the Maracana tonight to watch Bocca Juniors V Fluminise. They were in the Bocca Juniors end with only 5000 fans whilst there were 95,000 of the Fluminise fans, so they were slightly out numbered.. The match was an important one in South America, it was the equivalent of the Champions League semi final. When they entered the stadium they had to get a police escort due to the fact they were so out numbered. The final score was 3-1 to Fluminise.Jonny said it was an amazing experience to watch a Brazilian game and he said its a night he will never forget. We have put some pictures up of the match.

Today we decided to book a tour guide for the morning . Marcio was recommended to us by some other travelers and we had arranged for him to collect us at 9am.
Our first stop was Christ the Redeemer. Marcio drove us most of the way up in his car. We then had to change to a minibus to get right to the top. Once up there the view was amazing and the statute seemed even bigger then I had expected. We managed to get some photos of us underneath the statue, not easy when there are literally hundreds of tourists wanting the same snap.
We then walked around the statue looking at the views of Rio and the surrounding areas. You could literally see everything from up there, Sugar Loaf, The Maracana and some Favelas which included the largest one in Rio. It was great having Marcio with us because he could point things out to us and answer any questions we had. As we made our way back down we visited the chapel at the statue.
Our next stop was Ruinas Park which was small building that had amazing views over St Theresa and Lapa. this was just a brief stop really and a photo opportunity.
The net stop was my favorite of all. Some amazing steps called Eu Te Amo. A man has tiled all these steps by hand. People send him tiles from all around the world to be added. Snoop Dog and Pharell Williams filmed the video to 'Beautiful' here and U2 filmed their video for 'Walk On' Here also. We managed to find tiles from UK, Ireland and Scotland. It was an amazing sight and hopefully our pictures do it justice.
We go back in the car and final stop was the Metropolitan Cathedral which was huge. It had amazing stain glassed windows. Pope John Paul the 2nd has carried out services here and attracted huge amounts of people.
After this last stop we were taken back to our Hostel. We were so glad that we had hired Marcio as he really showed us loads of things that we would not have seen ourselves. Brilliant morning.

Tonight was my first roper night out in Rio and I was really excited. We had arranged to go to the Favela Funk Party with a group from the hostel.
Basically what this is a party in a Favela that is opened to tourists.
We got collected from our hostel at 10.30pm and we were driven bout 1 hour away to the party. As we are tourists we are paced in the VIP area which is above the main club, with a balcony overlooking the main dance floor. You are allowed to go downstairs but they just give you this area as a base. We spent the whole night amazed at how the Brazilians dance, they are seriously amazing. It was an amazing night and well worth the money. Would definitely go again.
