Friday 5th June Today we left the hustle of bustle of Rio for Ilha Grande. We got picked up at 11am in a VW fan and drove for roughly 2 hours to the port. From here we got on a speed boat and crossed over to the Island. Ilha garnnde is an amazing place. There are no cars, its paradise. We arrived in the afternoon and after checking into our our hostel we explored a little and had some lunch. We decided that for dinner we would go down to the pier where there were lots of little restaurants and shops. To get there we had to walk along the beach. Here we were met with Jonny's fear - CRABS!!! There were hundreds of them and they were quite big. We managed to get past them all without getting bittent. We looked around a little and found a restaurant on the beach. Me and Danielle shared some grilled fish, salad, potatoes and rice. It was lovely. Jonny had a steak platter all to himself and it was huge. He ate it all though. We then made our way back to the hostel and sat on the decking that over looked the sea. On our second day in Ilha Grande we hit the beach. It was a roasting day and we spent it swimming and sunbathing. Jonny and Steven hired kayak and took it in turns to take me and Danielle out in it. In the evening me and Jonny stayed in the hostel and took advantage of th all you can eat fish BBQ. It was lovely. We then had a few beers with some other travelers. Its nice to chat to people that are doing the same as you as they can tell you things they have done and recommend things to do. On our third and final day on the Island we took a boat trip to Lopes Mendez. The boat collected us from the hostel and it then was about an hours ride to the harbor at Lopes Mendez. In order to get to the beach you have to do a 15 minute trek through a forest. On our way we saw some baby monkey that were very cute. We eventually got to the beach and relaxed there all day. The beach was lovely, the sand was like flour and the sea was really clear although the waves were big and there was a lot of surfers in the water. We got the boat back to our hostel and relaxed before me and Jonny went for dinner on the beach front. After tea we went to an ice cream shop that did the best ice cream I have ever tasted. We walked back along the beach to the hostel and packed our rucksacks once again as tomorrow we are heading back to Rio.
