We arrived in Chile after an 8 hour bus journey through the Andes. The drive was amazing. We have never seen views like we seen on this journey. Snow and mountains everywhere. It was a brilliant drive with great scenery. We enjoyed a relaxing few couple of days.
Our first trip was to a Zoo and to visit the statue or 'Our Lady' with views over Santiago. At the zoo we saw many different animals like, elephant, panther, lion, monkeys, giraffes and many more. However we could help but feel sorry for the animals. the zoo is on a hill and the enclosures seem very small. We left the zoo and caught the tram to the top to see the statue and the wonderful views over the city.
Our next day out was Snowboarding. We booked it through the hostel and the trip started at 7am. We drove for an hour and arrived at a shop where we hired clothes for the day and we were given our snowboards and boots. We then drove another hour until we got the ski resort of ' El Colorado.' It was a lovely resort with amazing views. It wasn't long before we were attempting to snowboard. The morning was pretty much taken up with a lot of falling over and getting annoyed that we couldn't seem to pick it up. We stopped for lunch and Carley was very close to giving up. We both tried again that afternoon and we are so glad that we did. It seemed to come to us all of a sudden and soon we were getting halfway down without falling. Not quite pros but we felt proud of each other. We were collected from the resort at 5pm and taken back to the hostel. On the way we realised how much pain we were in. This pain lasted for the next few days however we were still glad that we had given it a go.
On our final evening in South America we treated ourselves to a lovely dinner. We cant believe that the first part of our trip is now over. We have loved South America and it has been so much better than we could have ever imagined. We are happy with all the things we have done and activities we have tried so far. We are excited to move on though and ready for the next part of our adventure to begin.
New Zealand here we come.
