Day 4
We were up early this morning to catch the 9am ferry over to Robben Island. The tour itself is a very somber experience, starting with a coach journey around the island during which the tour guide gave a brief history of each landmark. Then you are shown through to the prison blocks, where an ex political prisoner gives you a presentation of what it was like to be incarcerated on Robben Island. All in all a worthwhile trip! As it was lunchtime by the time we returned we wandered around the V&A waterfront which is a big shopping centre with restaurants scattered around the harbour, looking for a nice place to eat. After a short walk I spotted my favourite sign.... PUB .... The Mitchell's ale house was a great find, with excellent craft ale and a fine selection of bar food! Fed and watered we headed of to the Springbok rugby museum to get myself a Springbok shirt so I can fit in around Cape Town as every second person seems to be wearing one :-)
[edit from Fi - Jon has forgotten to mention his new BFF the street performer, you should ask him about it sometime :-) ]
We were planning to meet up with a friend tonight but unfortunately she was ill so couldn't make it, this being the case and since we couldn't be bothered to go out too far from the guest house we went down to the Black Sheep restaurant again ! Luckily we went at the time we did as they were fully booked but managed to find us a table. This time I had the squid to start and kingklip fish curry for main, both were very tasty and went down nicely with a couple of glasses of red wine !
