Day 5
Our car turned up today so after a complementary full English breakfast we headed of to Cape Point via Boulders Beach. Everything was going swimmingly until we got to Kalk Bay where we hit a traffic jam that was ten times worse than the A10 on a Friday evening. As neither of us fancied sitting in a traffic jam on holiday we did a quick u turn and headed over a lovely mountain pass to get back on the road to Boulders beach! Now when they call it boulders beach they really mean it, the boulders are massive, some over 20ft tall which you really have to squeeze though or climb over to reach the Penguins that live on the beach. Despite the rock climbing we had to endure, it was well worth it! The beach is covered with penguins hiding between the rocks snoozing the day away. I must have taken at least 200 photos so if I ask anyone over the next few weeks "would you like to see my holiday snaps" unless you really like penguins, I suggest you decline!
We then headed off to Cape Point & Cape of Good Hope, we knew we were heading in the right direction due the the lines of coaches we were following! Unsurprisingly I suppose but there were hundreds of tourists of every nationality, all trying to get up to the lighthouse at Cape Point. As we were short of time we got tickets for the "Flying Dutchman" funicular Railway. Have to say it is worthwhile, the views "from the end of the world" were fantastic.
We were a little late getting back to the guest house but we had plenty of time to get ready for your posh meal at the Roundhouse in Camps Bay, or so we thought.. Top tip we have learned in Cape Town is unlike the UK the taxis turn up 15 mins before you booked them!!! It wasn't a real problem as we were almost ready to go anyway, so jumped in the taxi and headed to the Round House which was an 18th century hunting lodge as is indeed round! We were met outside by the waiter who showed us to our table and explained the menu. In essence it was a 5 course or 8 course tasting menu. I unsurprisingly went for the 8 course and Fi the 5, although they don't do matched wines the sommelier chose 4 wines for me to complement the dishes. I won't go into detail about what we had as you will be able to see from the photos, enough to say is was one of the best meals we have every had! We have really loved our time in Cape Town and I really hope we get to come back!! Tomorrow we head to franchoek!
