ok so I headed down to Rockhamton next. The bus journey was an experiance. We got on the bus then stopped to change at Macky. The bus that was waiting for us however had no aircon so was very sweaty. We headed to the depo to change buses again and carried on. After another few hours we heard beep beep and an oh s*** from the driver as we stopped again. We had brocken down again. There was some light at the end of the rainbow however as we had broke down outside a service station with a breakdown recovery truck outside. We were soon fixed and made it eventually after about 9 hrs on the bus.
Rocky is realy big city and kind of American looking. It is built around the Fitzroy River which is supposed to be one of its attractions however it just looks like a muddy river to me. I took one if the hostel bikes out to explore and made it to the Boutanical gardens and the zoo, with animals like wallabies, koala chimps few lizards and lots of birds. It was free so cant complain. I headed back and did stard to get slighty annoyed as after riding for 15mins realised I was in the same place as when I started. I then headed off again in the wrong direction and ended up in at the airport. I am soooo pants with directions, but I do slightly yet agian blame a shoddy map. I made it back and me and a lad (Ross) I met cooked up a curry and watced some TV. A couple I also met in Cairns and have seen several times traveling down were also in the hostel. After a discussion a few days ago about how I would have nothing to open on my birthday she turned up with a little gift for me. So touched.
Another day in Rocky and not much to report. just had a wonder and met two girls in my dorm who I went out with for Steak. Rocky is the beef steak capitol of Queensland, oh and it was beltin. a 400g rump with all the trimmings and pepper sauce. It was a treat from me to me for my birthday, that yes was the next day but any excuse.
The next morning I headed out to my farmstay. Early start 6.30am and arrived at the farm. There were 4 of us heading out there. A girl I met in Cairns Rosy and Irish girl Ruth and Dutch pretty boy whos name cant spell. The farm is a realy big lot of land that is mostly for beef cattle. It was dairy back in its day however was forsed to convert after England stopped bying the butter from Oz. It is owned and run by Peter and Olive and daughter Lynne. We went out in the morning for a horse ride then had lunch. The afternoon was motorbike riding, well off road motor bikes. I was quite scared as I never riden before however it was good. May even get my own bike one day, he he. It was obviously my birthday today and started to feal a bit low, especialy due to the fact that I stupidly didnt bring any alcohol with me so couldnt even look forward to a drink. Allso no receptions on mobile so couldnt even speak to anyone from home, sorry folks!! I was even studying the map of the area to see weather there was any hope of finding a shop but that was no hope as nothing for miles around. When all hope was nearly lost I befriended a bunch of police men/women that were on a chrimbo party break. They had a great setup of a table full of booze so before I knew it was supping coctails with them getting merry after all. We jumped in the pool at about 11 in the eve and played water football game. Well me and rosy stood in the corner while the lads seemed to knock seven bells out of each other. It was realy good and funny night.
The next morning with a heavy head we went for another horse ride. That was after milking the cow. They also have a baby wallaby, whos mother was squished that they look after and a couple of parrots one rather scappy with a disease that makes its feathers fall out. Anyway the ride was yet again realy good riding through achers and achers of land. The afternoon was a rope lesson which I was quite good at. We then moved onto cracking the whip and after whipping myself twice in the arm and seeing Peter whip himself in the face I called that a day. I didnt fancy loosing my head. I then left the farm back to Rockhampton. I wish I could have stayed longer as it was realy good and realy nice people. Its rubbish when you go to new places and you have to leave a group of good people.
Anyway I will put photos on soon as I am a bit slack at that at the mo. Love to everybody and speak soon. xxxx
