ok so on leaving Rocky I headed down to Agnes Waters and the town of 1770. I think its named 1770 because captain cook came to australia in this year. Then again i could be completely wrong. This is a cool little surf town in which I took the chance to take up a surf lesson. Hard work but good fun. I ended up battered and bruised however did manage to stand up on several occasions so was happy enough. I also took part in the famous scooteeroo. Basicaly its a mass exodous of choppers on the roads. The roads of Agnes waters/1770 are very quiet with hardly any veicals so you can imagine the immage of more than 50 backpackers on these choppers/moterbikes heading down the roads. Oh and to complete the hells angel look you are given the leathers and fake tattoos and the helmet with flames, so funny.
After a very laid back time in 1770 I went on to Rainbow Beach. This is only very small place with a nice beach. Unfortunatly I had 2 days there in the rain as the weather has taken a nose dive. Therfore you can immagin that there isnt a great deal to do in a beach town in the rain. this is however my gateway to Fraser Island. Fraser Isalnd is the worlds largest sand island and is awsome. The day befor our tour we get a briefing. The tour I booked onto is a tag along 4WD camping trip for 2 nights 3 days. We are put into groups of 8 per veihical and the idea of the tour is that you drive around the island with your group following a lead car. The island doesnt realy have any real roads hense the 4WD. The group loaded up the car with all provisions and we headed over on the ferry. Before we headed out we were expecting pants weather with rain and storms, which would obviously be a barrel of laughs....not, wasnt looking forward to driving and camping in that. We got there however and the gods were looking down on us as the weather was fab. The first day we drove out to lake Mackenzie, which is a strange sight and a beutifull one. Its a large lake but is surrounded by sand, looks like a beach. We spent an hour or so there swimming and playing ball in the clear water. I then had a turn of driving and headed out for a very bumpy ride through the bush which was well fun, then onto the beach to drive along what looked like a never ending beach, it seamed to go on forever. We made it back to the camp site and set up for the night. We had tents and gas cookers with a good supply of food and drink of course. After a sandy meal we stayed about drinking and chatting. It certainly wasnt a glamping experiance as we had no showers and wash facilities....washing up therefore in the sea. No toilets either so the sea was used for that also, come to think of it thats not the best place to was up after you have taken a leak in it, but never mind, all dignity went out the window. After a sleep on a hard floor we got up the next day and headed to a place called champain pools. These a pools of water by the edge of the sea and look abit like spar pools. It was another glorious sunny day so we chilled in the pools. Back in the car to drive to whats called indian head. Its like cliff edge were you can look over the sea and spot sting rays. There is also a ship wrech that you drive past on the beach which is a pretty cool sight. Its all rusted and degrading but looks cool. Back to the camp again for another sandy dinner. You have to carefull on this island also not to leave and food around as its attracks the dingos which can be a bit nasty. I did hear them in the night howling which was a bit eary. That night was also a picture perfect night sky and you could see all the stars. In the distance from the island looking out from the shore there was storm kicking off. The flashes of lightening could be seen in the distance and we were hopping that in the distance was were it would stay. Thankfully we avoided the storm. We packed up the tents the next day and headed for Lake Wobby. This is another stunning lake surrounded by sand dunes. The water is green with teetree oil and there are cat fish that will come and nibble on your feet...like happy feet in the trafford centre but free, hehe. We spent a couple of hours there just swimming and relaxing in the water...oh its a hard life. Sadly all good things must come to an end as we head back to main land oz ofter lunch. Had a realy fun couple of days with a good buch of people. Still finding sand in all my stuff however,
Will update again after my next adventure. love lots xxxx
