European Adventure 2017
Another stunning day which is promising to be very hot. We left the small port of Buzet at about 9.30 and headed throughout the lock signalling the beginning of the Baise River which definitely looks as though it is flowing upside down! About an hour or so later we passed under the Aquaduct we had sailed over the Baise in two days earlier, The Aquaduct is 580metres long and was constructed in 1839 and was much more spectacular from on top than below, Today is Mandy and Charlie's wedding anniversary and the best present for them was when Mandy managed to get their safe open! She dreamt what the combination was in her half sleep last night and tried it as soon as she got up and voila! A quick phone call to the company to let them know all was well and due to language problems no further explanation was required! Vianne is a lovely little village on the banks of the Baise which was built in 1284. It is a walled village with several towers many of which have been restored. With its centre town square and restaurants with their tables under umbrellas it was very pretty. We wandered the narrow streets which were all very quiet except for the hundreds of swallows dipping and diving all over the place. The restaurant looked inviting in the mid afternoon for a quick drink and we returned that night for an evening meal. Eating out is incredibly good value. Last nights four course dinner including wine and coffee was less that $50 per person and was absolutely fantastic. Tonight's dinner was not as spectacular but still very nice and was less than $20 per person. Very pleasant. Unfortunately being on the water there are a lot of little things that bite flying around. Not sure why though but Geoff and I so far are unscathed and the others are all covered with bites! Maybe we are just not sweet enough! (I note that some pictures end up sideways when I put them in ....they are straight when I do them so not sure what happens. As I am on the phone light version I don't have the ability to edit them sorry so you will just have to lie down to view them!)

Alison Wilton We canal boated about 2002 in an 8 berth. Sounds a similar system. It was so hot that we bought a blow up paddle pool and the lock keeper helped us blow it up and it was placed on the front of the boat. The lock keeper thought we were mad and unfortunately the drivers could not see past it. We pulled off between villages, ripped dead wood out of trees and often had a BBQ 2 bricks and mesh.
