European Adventure 2017
Wow what a fantastic city! We had a great day today as we walked around. Before we headed towards St Wenceslas square - which isn't a square as it is a wide road with a statue of him on his horse at the end in front of the National Museum - we paused for a coffee and a Czech specialty trdelnik which is a long strip of dough wound around a metal cylinder and cooked over hot coals until crisp and then dipped into a cinnamon and sugar. Very nice. Around the corner was a market and we had a quick look. Plenty of the usual tourist souvenirs but lots of lovely fresh vegetables and fruit but we didn't buy anything due to lack of luggage space for coming home. Lunch was a Czech sausage in a roll and that was really nice. The price of things over here is very cheap in comparison to the UK, NZ and even France for that matter. We have tried to buy local food or eat local dishes where we can and it has been very nice. St Wenceslas looked very grand sitting on his horse surveying the road in front of him. The architecture in the area was again eye catching as we wandered around looking skyward at the beautiful buildings. From there it was back towards town and to the National Theatre which is a stunning building. Across the Legii bridge to the St Nicholas Basilica which was a very ornate church in the Baroque style of the day. We stopped for a beer/cider at a little place under the bridge and then wandered back to the apartment. Lidka and I veered off to the market again and bought some fruit for breakie and then by the time we got back it was happy hour! A time for regathering our thoughts and rest up for a while as tonight four of us head off for an evening dinner cruise.
