This is the view from my hotel room. The building on the left is a bit run down, but in decent condition for Kinshasa. With it's location right next to this hotel and the unique architecture, it would be a great building to renovate. To the right you can see the headquarters of Airtel Africa in the DRC. I have attended this building for meetings at times, but I typically work about five minutes away at their new data center (NTC).
When I arrived at work this morning, I found out what had really happened the day before. Apparently the gunfire that was reported by the Embassy was actually a poorly planned coup attempt. I was told that thirty or so heavily armed men attempted to raid one of the president' residences. The problem for them was (a) they arrived five minutes after the president left, and (b) they were met by a greater number of the presidents guards.
The only change I have really noticed is an increased presence of the military and police in town.
