Monday 21st Sept. Yesterday we found Lesley and Gary's house easily with Karens help and spent the afternoon with them. They took us into the Brunswick St in the city for our lunch it is one of the main streets for eating out and at 3am it was still very busy.
Today we slept in and it was after 10 before we set out for the Mornington Peninsula .Our first stop was at Frankston information centre where we got some good leaflets and maps of the area.Mornington was our lunch break, a nice place but the sea was full of jelly fish and starfish. We walked along the pier and it was littered with starfish the fisherman must catch them.We saw our first beach huts, here the peninsula is famous for its brightly colored beach huts and they are often on place mats etc.The foreshore on that side of the peninsula is one long council owned camping ground with power and water and facilities. It almost made me wish we had the caravan but I put the temptation behind me.We were surprised it was empty as we are now in the school holidays. One of the attractions in the area is Arthur's seat but don't bother going it is not worth the effort.Looking at the photos on display its heyday was about 50 years ago and it has steadily been declining since. The chair lift is closed and doesn't look like reopening but you can drive to the top.We stopped at Mt Martha which is not a mountain but a seaside place and had a look at the beach huts but they were all locked up. (that makes it sound like we wanted to break in) Everyone must have gone to Qld for the holiday. It is a beautiful coastline with accessible beaches and the weather was bright and quite warm (17 degrees) but at 5pm the sun disappeared and it was a cold 14 degrees and time for home.
