I woke up several times in the night as our room was near a main road with window open. It was so loud and hard to sleep. I had an alarm set for 6:45 as our bus to Australia Zoo was at 7:45. I was awake well before then so got up and read about the Newcastle game. Sounded mental. 2 red cards, several fights and a last minute Newcastle equaliser. So gutted I couldn't be at St James' for it. We check out of Banana Bender and head to the bus station. We are both really tired as Sammie didn't sleep well either, to make matters worse, the weather is atrocious. We arrive at Australia Zoo and it's still tipping it down. Not just a little bit, this is some heavy rain. As we are getting a bus from here to Hervey Bay, we have to take our luggage with us. So we pay for a locker and buy rain macs to use. The zoo is fantastic. It surprises me how big it is. So many awesome animals. As we arrive I get my photo taken holding a baby crocodile. I also feed an elephant, stroke a koala bear and tap gently on the shell of a giant tortoise. It was a huge tortoise. The tigers are awesome. The trainers seem to be in with them all day. The bond between the trainers and the tigers is so amazing. We find out you can take a tiger for a walk, pet it, have your photo taken with it and all sorts for $400. If I ever come back to this zoo, I'm making sure I got enough money for that. Incredible. Lots of crocs here as expected. We went to the infamous Crocoseum to see the show where exotic birds are used before a crocodile is brought out and fed. Some cool video clips of the Irwin family especially Steve are played on the big monitor screen at the end. In the Crocoseum building there is a lovely display of messages to steve and various items depicting his life. It's quite touching looking through it all. The whole day it has not stopped raining. Some of the zoo is almost flooded. The river running through it is a lot wider than it should be. It is absolutely torrential. Sammie is moaning most of the time but it's still a good day. Such an amazing zoo just a shame about the weather. By about 3pm we have done and seen everything and it's still lashing it down so take shelter in 'Tiger Temple'. I lie down on a bench and almost fall asleep just watching the tigers for an hour before our bus is due. Sammie gets a phone call from the Greyhound bus company saying the roads to Hervey Bay are closed due to flooding and that the bus can only take us as far as Noosa. What a pain. I fall asleep briefly on the bus to Noosa. It's an Australian Zoo bus and plays Steve Irwins Crocodile Hunter DVDs on the screens on it. When we arrive in Noosa we find out the nearest hostel and head straight to it and see if they have 2 beds available. They have. It's $33 a night which is a lot for a hostel. The room is has a Canadian lad, a Canadian women and her Australian boyfriend and a lad from London. There is a bar just down the road that is doing free burger and chips with any drink purchased. So the 6 of us go get that. A couple of us manage to get 2 plates as they didn't take our tickets of us first time round so I eat almost 2 portions worth. Back at the hostel we find out there is a wet bikini & a jock competition. After much discussion, me, Sammie & the Australian/Canadian couple decide to enter it. We get taken to a kitchen where the girls put little white tops on and the lads strip down to their boxers. 2 of the lads who are from London are wasted. They end up ripping each others boxers off and having to wear a thin strip of material instead. On stage we get water poured on us and have 30 seconds to impress. I just set out to make people laugh which my random and disjointed performance does. At one point I do a handstand and my feet wedge perfectly against the ceiling. I manage to wave one of my arms holding myself up still with the other which seemed to get a good response. Sammie and Merryl (Canadian girl) do a joint performance. The 2 drunk london lads do a joint performance too which is incredibly funny yet very disgusting and graphic. They end up getting kicked out along with another lad for being too mental. The best bit is the fact that Chris (Australian lad) wins the men's one. He gets $100. It was so funny. Straight after I head back to the room and go to bed as its late and I'm knackered. I've had my fun for the night. There is a trail of destruction from the bar back to the rooms. I'm guessing it was one of the London lads. Silly b*****. It's so loud whilst trying to sleep. There's a group of people singing and shouting nearby. I put headphones on at 1am to help block the sound out. I finally fall asleep at 2ish.
