I didnt get seasick! Had a great time on the Avatar - met some nice people - a real mix of passengers - some my age, some older, some younger, a honeymoon couple, a father and son and a set of brothers - all nationalities too! And the skipper was only 20! There were three crew and 26 passengers - sleeping arrangements were all double beds (although there was an option to camp)! There were some open berths in the main bit, but also three little hatches on each side of the boat, and Beth and I were in one of these - great with the breeze, but so hot without! Beth tried sleeping outside on the netting bit one night, but got a bit cold, and the second night there was a little bit of rain! No seasickness though, and we sailed around some islands, did lots of snorkling (saw some amazing big turtles - they are so graceful) and found Nemo!!! We did have an underwater camera, but havent been able to get it developed yet. We went to Whitehaven Beach and it was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The silica sand is so white and it's just gorgeous. The only down side is that you cant swim in the sea here without wearing stinger suits to protect you from the jelly fish. Attractive.... not! Especially when you see the pictures of me standing next to Beth - we look like Little and Large (because she is so tiny!)!! Didnt see any jelly fish, but better to be safe than sorry I guess, even if we did all look silly - it's especially funny watching people trying to wriggle into their suits - but its just like putting on wesuits I suppose!
We were lucky as we able to have showers on board - even if they were only 10 second ones (the tap comes out of the sink in the little toilet cubicles, you can have one shower a day, and basically you rinse yourself down for ten seconds, then lather up with your showergel/shampoo etc, then rinse yourself off again for another ten seconds. Everyone takes their own booze and its best to take lots of drinking water too - but the food on board was lovely, so everyone was happy!
Didnt do any scuba diving, as it wasnt available on our boat, but not sure I'm bothered about learning to do that anyway, as I've seen some great coral just snorkling!
Off to a cattle station next with the OZ Bus, then to Fraser Island for a three day trip around an island made of sand where you have to drive in a 4x4 and camp on the beach!
I found Nemo, yeah!!
