Just finished our first week of classes. We only have classes 3 days a week, with 5 different professors (5 different classes.) I'm taking a two classes solely on "oral/written Spanish," one class is "poetry/literature," one is titled, "study abroad," and the other is about "politics/history in Latin America." That class is with the program director from St.Cloud. He is married to a Chilean so he speaks fluent English and Spanish. This class is a mix of the 12 of us (from St.Cloud) and about 10 other Chilean students at the University. It's all in Spanish and consists of various conversation regarding politics/government/etc. This past Tues, (no class) the group of us went to the city to various places associated with the Chilean government in order to receive our "carnet," which is similar to a state driver's license; picture ID, name, birthdate, etc.
The latest album (titled "la ciudad/la escuela") includes various photos from this past week. As I said before, everything is SUPER cheap here! For example, meals at restaurants that would normally cost around $10-15 US range from only $5-7 US here. If you want to find a good deal, there's not much effort involved.
The weather this past week was HORRIBLE! I miss the MN weather soooo much! Seasons are oppisite here, so starting Sept. 1st is SPRING here! It'll start to warm up but they say it's pretty windy during the spring. Spring lasts until November and starting December is summer! :) There was a horrible storm here Wed. afternoon. It was on the news later that night and early the next morning. I have some pictures I'll post later. The water was literally up to my KNEES! My friends and I had just gotten out of our last class when it started to down pour, looking at the parking lots you weren't able to see any of the cars' tires! COMPLETELY covered in water! We kept asking people if it was normal and they said "no." There were even some people on the news who's homes had flooded as well. I went for a job today this afternoon when the weather was somewhat decent. A high of around 57 today, windy, and cloudy. I carry an umbrella with me every day to class because you never know what time of the day it's going to rain, (which is pretty much EVERY day.) The air is very dry here as well. We went to the mall today and I had to stop at the pharmacy to buy some eyedrops.
Tonight, Amber's host mom is taking us out to the "classier" part of town. Feel free to email me WHENEVER! I love to hear from all of you! :)
chao for now ;)
