Hola amigos y familia! This is a picture of my house in Chile. I also uploaded an album, (just click on photo albums to view it.)
I arrived here Thurs. afternoon, got picked up at the airport by my host mom and she drove me to my house in Chile. It's only about 10 min. from the airport and the mall, which has a T.G.I.FRIDAY'S inside!!! My house is in a gated community, which you need a key or need to have somebody let you in in order to enter. They're sort of like town-homes where every house looks exactly the same inside. The only difference between some is whether or not there are two separate bedrooms upstairs or one large bedroom. I live with a single mom, Monica (37) and her daughter, Danyiela (9). Every day, (M-F) a nanny comes at 11 and leaves around 7 or so. She cleans, does laundry, and prepares meals. Monica said that it is not uncommon to have a nanny. My friend Amber from St.Cloud, who actually only lives 5 houses down from me lives with a single lady, (no children) and she has a nanny come every day as well. I have my own room/bathroom.
So far, things have been going really well. It's very different here, as far as transportation is concerned. They have taxis, buses, cars, etc. Every day, Amber and I are going to take what's called a "colectivo" to school. It's only 400 pesos, which is equivalent to about 80 cents and it picks us up right in front of our neighboorhood and drops us off right outside of la universidad de concepcion. It's very difficult to explain a "colectivo" but basically each one has a number and you HAVE to know exactly where each number is going to take you.
As far as the food is concerned, it's all fairly healthy. Breakfast is maybe cereal, or a piece of bread, with tea...Lunch is the biggest meal of the day, probably chicken with rice/mashed potatoes, and a salad (which is just iceberg lettuce that's been marinated in vinegar, water, and lemon juice) and dinner is pretty light with maybe a little portion of leftovers from lunch. EVERY meal they serve tea....I've been drinking soooooooo much of it! It's very good here and they have lots of different kinds. Well, feel free to message/email me whenever! I don't have internet at my house right now so I'm using the wifi at my friend Amber's. Hope all is well in MINNESOTA! :)
