Since Klein's camp is so isolated in the Serengeti, animals roam the grounds at night. You have to be escorted from your cabin to dinner and back after dark. A Massai tribe member, Paulo, equipped with his spear, greets us at our door and uses a flashlight shinning into the woods as he walks us to dinner. Turns out lions are naturally frightened of the Massai's because over thousand of years the Massai that live off only their cattle are especially trained and skilled to kill lions that attack their cattle. Paulo stays up all night and protects the camp. When he picked us up for the 6am safari the next morning, he told us lions were literally in the yard right off the front porch of our cabin the night before. I told him to wake us up next time to see them.
