We first enjoyed a late afternoon, early evening safari with drinks at sundown on the Serengeti. Next morning we did the 6am version where they cook a full breakfast on the Serengeti after two hours of looking at animals. We got real lucky and ran upon a pride of lions including two males lumbering back into the forest with full stomachs then followed the buzzards to observe four females finishing off a wildebeest each taking a turn. The sight of 30-50 buzz...

So, we stop at the office upon leaving the Serengeti National Park, Jim and I both go around to use the restroom. I decided that it was too bad to use and so when Jim came out I asked him to watch while I peed outside. I look up only to see him watching me!! I meant for him to watch for approaching people.

Since Klein's camp is so isolated in the Serengeti, animals roam the grounds at night. You have to be escorted from your cabin to dinner and back after dark. A Massai tribe member, Paulo, equipped with his spear, greets us at our door and uses a flashlight shinning into the woods as he walks us to dinner. Turns out lions are naturally frightened of the Massai's because over thousand of years the Massai that live off only their cattle are especially trained...

At least the flight was at 8:30am and not 6am but we still had to leave Ngorongoro Crater Lodge at 7am. The driver told us it was a 1½ -hour drive, which would put us there just barely on time. In route we encountered a big delivery truck whose brakes failed causing it to block the 1½ lane dirt road along the crater rim. No problem for our driver, he just shifted into 4-wheel drive, up the roadside embankment and back down to the road. Pulled up 5 min...
