After the 9 hour plane trip to cover about 100 miles as the crow flies we ended up a Camp Beteleur in the Maasai Mara in Kenya which is actually the same as the Serengeti in Tanzania. Both are located in the Great Rift Valley that extends from Ethiopia to South Aftrica. Camp Beteleur is a tent camp with large tents over a wooden platform with all the amenities of a hotel room. The rear of the tent is aligned perfectly with the bed producing a perfect view of the Serengeiti/Massai Mara savannah with animals grazing. A mesh end with zipper to reach the porch gives you the feeling you are sleeping outside. All night we heard various sounds from the many types of animals and birds around the camp. The camp has a jungle feel, which has an electric fence around the property to keep out the animals. Since the animals are not grazing in the fenced in area, foliage can grow creating the jungle environment. Even the main lodge is a large tent, permanently open on the rear overlooking the savannah. During our trip we found all the inn/camp/hotel African workers very friendly, helpful, competent and hard working. The team at Beteleur seemed to be even more friendly. Our visit consisted of safaris in the morning and afternoon, with one day of no safaris so we could just have a vacation day. The main enjoyment of the safaris were the elephant and giraffe families and seeing the great migration in process. We also saw incredibly beautiful birds and eagles. Last event was a bonfire on top of the ridge at sundown with the Maasai tribesmen doing their ritual dance then a private dinner on our tent porch. We learned the camp family of wart hogs with four piglets lived under our porch. Next stop is Ethiopia where homo sapien bones and artifacts have been found from 60,000 yag believed to be where homo sapiens lived right before migrating out of Africa.
