The tinnies got cracked open and hey presto we got chatting. One American chap who we spoke to claimed his mother used to date john Cleese and she was called wanda ( as in 'a fish called wanda' ) but I'm sure I've heard that story before somewhere so I was dubious. He was a nice chap though from LA. He was a great guitarist but would only play the most difficult parts of every song he knew, like he was showing off a bit, much like a friend back home (mention no names...Stevie G). He also looked like this nameless friend from back home (Stevie G) which was strange. Had a few good conversations with him over tea and Australian Stella while katie got stuck talking like a 5yr old to the nice but hard to speak to Swiss guy we met the other nght. She asked to see a photo, just one, of alice springs and he proceeded
To show her 2gb worth! (about 1000 mum).
When we retired to the room we soon realised that the hostel had sold one of our beds so we had to cram together into the one tiny bed.
The next morning I had to kindly request we had a refund for one of the beds as we have paid for two for the week. They swiftly obliged and apologised for the 'error'. I think they just thought we would accept it as we're a couple but to be fair, they can bollox. We paid for two beds we will have two beds! (you have to wait for everyone to leave for the day to 'share' a bed. Sorry Pauline.)
So that morning we decided to head out for the Wwoofing office so we could sign up to work for farms in exchange for a bed and food. Some of the options sound amazing like working on a butterfly farm, or a cattle ranch or just helping people around the family farm. All the placements are in the middle of nowhere and so it will be a good experience to get off the beaten track and into true Australia. We applied for a few over dinner and used the very expensive Internet to email prospective placements. Fingers crossed.
