Well, we're not dead you'll be glad to hear. It's been a while though. Also thought we were in for it at one point wem we got on the bus to meet our wwoofer hosts and were told to look for the White ute with a skull and cross bones on it. Gulp. Turns out our host, Kezia, collects all manner of skulls and other trinkets such like due to her fascination with the phantom comics.
What else can I say other than we have definately arrived in good old oz. We are right in the bush here living on a 'street' owned by one family. There's kezia, thisbie, melissa and plaxie. They're all the sisters and the farmer is Noah ( or noni, or just 'the farmer'.) she's the mother who is a very spritelty 83! She works full time on her farm with goats, pigs, donkeys and all sorts of poultry as well as some kangaroos she reared as pets from rescuing them and 3 dogs. Oh and some exotic fruit trees. We help on the farm most days for a couple of hours and I have made really good friends with Noah. We exchange stories as she loves England and watches all sorts of crap from home like bargain hunt and antiques roadshow. They get all that s*** over here!
Kezia is our host at the mo and she is brilliant. She's the local politician! She's a full on Tory mind but they're not the same here. She loves a drink as do we so we fit right in. We've done all sort for her around her 10 acres. Paving, concreting, weeding, dump runs, dog walking, housework, henhouse repairs. All manner of things. She has in return put a roof over us, fed us and took us places we would never have seen. Local taverns, friends houses etc. We even got paid work through her! She's been lending us the phantomobile (White and purple ute caked in stickers) so we were able to go to lichfield national park to swim In pristine waters and see giant termite mounds, we've seen the biggest firework display ever at mindil markets and even judged a sandcastle competition at nightcliffe seabreeze festival with our new friend madam speaker of the nt parliament. We really are having a blast!
On the farm we get to feed, clean, tag and other stuff which can be tiring but knowing you've done something constructive (not sit behind a desk) makes it worth it. Honestly, I'm in bed by 10 and up at 7.30 most days.
We spent about 2 weeks at Kezias and have moved on to her sisters place. Thisbie is a real free spirit, into yoga, buddism and stuff but not so far gone that you would call her a hippy or anything. She's just at one with...well...everything. She does a lot of work with aboriginal ladies like weaving and such like so we will learn a lot from her I would imagine. She reckons she's getting me to do yoga tomorrow. She bloody reckons wrong like. We have slotted in well here, so much so we are going to house sit for Thisbie when she goes away to the desert for work in June. She'll be gone for 5 weeks so we will be in the northern territory for a while yet! Might even have a visitor come help us house sit from the uk if were lucky which Thisbie has already agreed to(;)). That's a winking face in brackets for you confused mob, looks wierd so I thought I'd explain it.
Gonna start looking for a motor of our own soon I think. Nice big ute I hope. Gret big bull bars and an air horn.....
